Hi Safmaf!
I am not as knowledgeable as most in vintage, but i cannot see a picture of the creed in the auction, you should ask the seller for one, as I am sure Hyacynth or other authenticators will ask to see one. It reveals a lot as far as autenticity goes.
Unless they changed the model, my catalog shows yours isnt a City Bag but it doesnt mean its not real, maybe the seller just didnt know what to call it.
Anyways, try to get a photo of the creed :)

Hello balmer79!

Thank you for your quick reply. There are actually two photos of the creed in the listing. I also initially did not notice it. You just need to scroll down.

Oh I see it now!
I was looking at the auction on the iPad and somehow it didnt display correctly.
Now I see from my computer.
From a quick glance it sort of looks like the Convertible Clutch at least the lenght of bag would be right but listed width is 3.5in as clutch would be more like 3in.

Im a little puzzled by the serial but as I said, im not the expert, once Hyacynth looks im sure she will know.

The bag looks great for sure! its in great shape for the age. I cant wait to find out once our experts look!

I'm not going to authenticate it because I can't see enough from the photos, but I wanted to say, I love this purse! If it is authentic, it is style #9385. I have it in gray. I was told it was from around 1986. I don't know if it has a special name; I think I was just told "shoulder purse." Mine has a metal hangtag - I don't know if it is original to the bag. Does yours have a hangtag? I don't know if Hyacinth or Demram will need better photos in order to authenticate.

Thank you ladies!

I love a good mystery...it does have a leather hangtag...the stamp is inside of the kisslock coin purse so its very hard to get in there to get a picture...but the numbers are stamped pretty clearly as 929 8015...
it has the dimensions as described earlier and is very reminiscent of the convertible clutch in shape and it has a detachable strap; however it is smaller and has spring latches, not the claws like on the convertible clutch.

I'll get a picture of the pockets, if the bag is from 86 these were definitely not for a cell phone! They are on the front of the purse visible when you lift the flap and are little more than half as tall as the exterior front of the purse, they are not equally sized; one double the size of the other.

Thanks again!

Thank you for looking into it.
I am now also very curious what style this bag is. It does seem to be in great condition.

Comments: Can you please authenticate this bag?

What year could this be? The seller's friend thought she purchased it in 1984 in a department store, but based on "Coach Serial Numbers - the Basic Facts : eBay Guides by Hyacinth for Salearea" the creed would indicate that the bag was manufactured in the late 1980s or beginning 1990s. The seller also told me that the bag was reconditoned by Coach.
Also, did the design of the city bag changed a little bit at some point? It looks slightly different from the current city bag or other vintage city bags listed. The flap in this bag appears longer than in the other city bags. It actually looks somewhat similar to the second bag that balmer79 just posted.

I am new to vintage Coach, so I really appreciate all your help. Many thanks!

I am just adding the pictures of the bag here as they are no longer available through the listing. It does seem that the style of the bag is convertible clutch and not the city bag. I look forward for opinions regarding the creed and authenticity of the bag. Thank you so much!

It's definitely not a City Bag - the City should still be available on Coach's website and has a very different flap design. As you thought, it's probably a Convertible Clutch, style number 9635 from the late 1980s. It looks very authentic.

It seems to me that this is the regular size and not the large one. Anyone else thinking the same??

Thank you fellow TPFs!!

The seller needs to post, and you should definitely ask for, a clear readable photo of the inside creed patch and serial number, and also of the inside of the price tag showing the name and production codes. Please don't even think of buying any bag without photos of those details, or at least the creed and serial number.

Once you get the photos please post them here and refer back to this post's number.

Just a quick reminder - don't ever depend on anyone's measurements, including Coach's, to be accurate or identical with anyone else's, since there aren't any "official" ways of measuring a bag. Everyone measures differently and a half-inch isn't even considered a discrepancy.

Can anyone authenticate my purse? I bought it a few years ago on eBay, as it was cheap and I was willing to take a chance, because I thought the purse was pretty and had potential either way. It is all leather, with a brass zipper and strap clasps. The inside is raw leather with one leather pocket stamped with the creed and serial number: No. 338-6613. Also, the logo stamped above the creed and on the hangtag reads "COACH LEATHERWORKS". The creed indicates it is "Made in New York City, U.S.A." If this is authentic, I would guess that it dates from the 1970's?

Below are the measurements and pictures. Please let me know if further pictures are required. Any information is appreciated. Thanks for your time! :smile1:

Bag Measurements (Approximate):
Length (across bottom of purse): 11 1/2 in.
Width (bottom of purse): 5 1/4 in.
Height: 7 1/2 in.

Hello Hyacynth and TPF friends!
Christmas and New Years crazyness has passed, now time to get back into hunting for treasures!
If you could can you look into these 2 pretties I picked up? I found them at a very descounted 2hand store, sells in bulk. Pretty much torn the whole store to get to the bottom and get those 2! I didnt find them at the same time

The first one I think is the city bag? It feels very soft and high quality. I think its real.

The 2nd one is the one I am hesitating. It measures about 11.5in wide and the bottom part is almost 4in.
It is pretty and seems older than the black bag in comparison. the hardware looks similar but not quite as thick, and it is brass thats starting to green a little bit in places. I am puzzled by the serial O50-3040
Ive looked into a few of the catalogs I have and I tought, Id post before I spend countless hours.

The first is a City Bag from 1994, the second is a Ranch Bag style 9852 from around 1990. Both seem genuine. The serial number on the second starts with zero-five-zero, not with a letter "O".

It's called a Madison Satchel, style number 9765, and was probably made in 1986 or 1987. Definitely genuine.

Thank you very much for your reply, Hyacinth! Balmer79 suggested that it was the Convertible Clutch. Thanks to both of you for your time.

Hi, can you authenticate this tote:

Item: COACH Bleecker Legacy Blue Leather Business Tote Bag

Listing number: 170973841410

Seller: nygan2825

Link: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/170973841410?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Comments:

I have seen the Bleecker Legacy Leather Weekend Tote style:70487 in the ocean blue colour but I have not seen the Business Tote in that colour, so I am concerned that it may not be genuine.

Thanks for any input.
