I agree that it's fake. Creeds were stamped deeply enough so that even scratching with a file or a knife wouldn't just make the whole thing vanish. The magnetic snap isn't right either, it should have a specific manufacturer's name and/or a valid US patent number.

I will. Thank you so very much!!

Hey ladies! I've recently acquired an Indigo Patchwork purse #10002.. I just wanted some opinions to see if it was authentic. I have uploaded some pictures here.

The zipper pulls all have YKK on them (I couldnt get a good picture but i tried to edit one to you can see it)...

First of all, welcome to tPF!

Second - NEVER use zippers for authentication - the "YKK Myth" is totally false. Wherever you heard or read that nonsense, ignore it and anything else posted by the same source. And read this ASAP:

The bag looks ok.

The bag is authentic but markings on zipper pulls are irrelevant to authenticity.

Please help authenticate. It looked ok to me however I thought I had read somewhere that these didn't come out until Aug 07 and the creed shows a few months before. Thanks.

It looks fine. Items that weren't officially introduced until a certain month and year could have been made as long as three or even six months before the intro date. And if you read the main Coach forum you'll see that a LOT of our members pre-order or buy bags well before they're officially released.

Thanks! I'll have to keep that in mind! :smile1: Does anyone know if this purse is LTD? I've never seen one like (around here atleast)

And BTW, the seller's comments about most 80s and early 90s bags not having creeds or numbers is BS. Creeds were started in the very early 80s at the latest. And that style is a ripoff of a Soho/Lightweight bag which didn't come out until the late 80s and which would have ALWAYS had a creed and serial number. The leather is also too textured for that style from that period.

Just a reminder - don't buy bags without a clear readable photo of the creed and serial number!

Hello Hyacynth and TPF friends!
Christmas and New Years crazyness has passed, now time to get back into hunting for treasures!
If you could can you look into these 2 pretties I picked up? I found them at a very descounted 2hand store, sells in bulk. Pretty much torn the whole store to get to the bottom and get those 2! I didnt find them at the same time

The first one I think is the city bag? It feels very soft and high quality. I think its real.

The 2nd one is the one I am hesitating. It measures about 11.5in wide and the bottom part is almost 4in.
It is pretty and seems older than the black bag in comparison. the hardware looks similar but not quite as thick, and it is brass thats starting to green a little bit in places. I am puzzled by the serial O50-3040
Ive looked into a few of the catalogs I have and I tought, Id post before I spend countless hours.

Item: VTG. COACH CITY BAG SOFT BRITISH TAN LEATHER MADE IN THE USA AUTHENTIC
Listing number: 181059557245
Seller: numberonemom

Comments: Can you please authenticate this bag?

What year could this be? The seller's friend thought she purchased it in 1984 in a department store, but based on "Coach Serial Numbers - the Basic Facts : eBay Guides by Hyacinth for Salearea" the creed would indicate that the bag was manufactured in the late 1980s or beginning 1990s. The seller also told me that the bag was reconditoned by Coach.
Also, did the design of the city bag changed a little bit at some point? It looks slightly different from the current city bag or other vintage city bags listed. The flap in this bag appears longer than in the other city bags. It actually looks somewhat similar to the second bag that balmer79 just posted.

I am new to vintage Coach, so I really appreciate all your help. Many thanks!

Hi Safmaf!
I am not as knowledgeable as most in vintage, but i cannot see a picture of the creed in the auction, you should ask the seller for one, as I am sure Hyacynth or other authenticators will ask to see one. It reveals a lot as far as autenticity goes.
Unless they changed the model, my catalog shows yours isnt a City Bag but it doesnt mean its not real, maybe the seller just didnt know what to call it.
Anyways, try to get a photo of the creed :)
