urgent request. i sold a bag to somebody who now claims the bag is a fake. i'm virtually certain it is not. but now i'm worried. s/he said that
"I see that you don't accept returns, however, this bag is a fake Coach. I took it to the mall's Coach store, and the manager verified this. Will you accept return? I thought I was buying a genuine Coach item."

would you be willing to let me know what you think?

I hope it comes up for you. I had bought it from somebody who sold it as authentic, but it's too big for me, so i decided to sell it. It sure looks authentic to me, the creed, the number, the style, etc.

thank you in advance for any advice/help.

I have #1, the Legacy Bridgit. That one looks authentic. Lucky you! You got a great price!

Thanks for your feedback whateve! I've been following this bag for awhile now and finally won an auction. I believe people do not like the metallic leather as much as the regular colors. My gain! I was really excited I won for a such a low price.:D

1- see Whateve's earlier post

2- genuine Bridle Bag, don't know the full style name

3- I'd still like to see a creed but it's a genuine Legacy Embossed Suede Shoulder Bag

4- genuine, but ask if the bag originally had a strap, see the photo for the Legacy Embossed Suede Wristlet #40714. I can see something on the left side that could be the ring mounting for the strap. If the owner removed it and especially if she cut the strap ring off that should be disclosed.

Thanks Hyacinth! I appreciate your help! I'll follow-up with the seller for item 4.

I am not sure of when the creed stopped having the word "Leatherware" at the top. There is another Quincy on ebay that was made a few months after yours and it doesn't have "Leatherware" in the lozenge. So, I think it is authentic but you should wait for confirmation.

Whateve is right, hangtags shouldn't be used for authentication because they're often changed or replaced, the word Leatherware was dropped a long while back, and many older serial numbers didn't have hyphens.

Thank you both! I appreciate you sharing your time & knowledge to help.

We keep saying over and over, and I even talked about it in the Salearea Guide on Authenticity Guides where I discuss the problems in almost all so-called "Rules" about Coach, that Coach employees and reps should NEVER EVEN TRY to authenticate bags, they're not trained for it and get it completely wrong at least 80 to 90 percent of the time. You may want to refer your buyer here:

Scroll down most of the way to "THE "YOU CAN VERIFY IT'S REAL BY CALLING COACH OR TAKING IT TO A COACH STORE" RULE"

THAT BRIEFCASE IS ABSOLUTELY GENUINE. The details, leather, hardware, and ESPECIALLY the creed stamp and serial number are absolutely correct. The clueless Coach employee - who was probably still in diapers when this bag was made - probably tried to look up the "style number" as the last 4 digits of the serial number, which doesn't work on any items made before 1994, the other Salearea Guides on Creeds and on Serial numbers explains why. Tell your buyer to read those too, and while she's at it she may want to give the link to the Coach store employee who supposedly authenticated the bag.

Just as an FYI, Coach SPECIFICALLY says on their website that employees are not allowed to authenticate Coaches from the serial numbers. The store employee should have followed company policy instead of making herself look like a fool and essentially accusing a seller of selling a fake when the bag is completely genuine. From their website: "Coach DOES NOT authenticate merchandise or determine whether serial numbers match actual Coach items..."

The style you sold was called an Executive Briefcase, the style number was 5260, and I'm including a photo of the briefcase from Coach's 1990 Holiday catalog, page 14. All the details are identical to the catalog photo and I'm 100 percent sure that the bag in your photos is completely genuine.

1- seems to be a genuine Equestrian Compartment Bucket

2- ok

3- Genuine, and I have its identical twin. The color is Aubergine. (There's still some question on whether the line name was Hamilton or Hampton).

4- Chelsea Bag, not Saddle Pouch. Style 9894, early 1990s.

5- genuine, mid to late 70s
Thank you for your info & corrections! Awesome :smile1:

Both look authentic to me but wait for more opinions.

I've posted a link to your question here over at the other Coach forum so let's hope some of the posters there will stop in and give some advice. :smile1:

Dear hyacinth. thank you so much for this. i will send the seller the entire response. I knew it was authentic, but needed "evidence" for the seller. I also was told by somebody that for $20.00 one can send a bag to coach for "authentication", and so will offer that as an additional option to the seller. My guess is that the seller just is having 'buyers remorse' during the holiday season, but i'm really annoyed that s/he would accuse me of selling an fake.
thank you so much for all the information! tmr

Coach doesn't have an authentication service any more so you don't need to suggest that. Just FYI.

In cases like this, Buyer's Remorse is the most likely explanation.

again, thank you so very much. do you know all the styles by heart? it's always amazing to me how you can pull up catalogue pictures and everything, even when the styles 'predate' the style numbers.

No, not at all. I never trust my memory for things like that - heck I've been driving for 45 years and still can't remember my driver's license number! :D

I have a pretty good catalog collection, and the formatting of the creed usually helps me narrow down what time period the creed belongs to. Makes it easier to find the right catalogs.
