Grabbed this bag at a charity thing thinking I would turn it into a craft project and then it occurred to me that it's obviously vintage and maybe I shouldn't do something dumb... So there are no "made in..." tags and no Coach creed. The kisslock does have a "B" on it and the gold trim is scratched off to silver. Any ideas for a ballpark year and what it might be worth to a collector if it's anything? Watermelon or Cashin?

Is there a way to tell if it's Cashin? And what year did they start numbering bags?

It's a Watermelon Tote and was NOT a Cashin design - per my response from the Cashin Foundation, when they authenticated. They don't authenticate any longer as far as I know.

The guides below will help with the years, etc.

Thanks so much! I saw that Cashin Foundation wasn't authenticating anymore but half the eBay bags like it are saying they are Cashin designs so I was getting confused, and admittedly, a little hopeful :) Thanks for the reply!

But one last thing to bug you about: After reading the guides, it is safe to assume that this bag was probably mid 70s -- sometime after 1974 when Cashin left Coach but before the "late 70s" when Coach started numbering/creeds?

I can only assume you are correct about the year of manufacture of that particular bag.

I have the same bag, with the same Coach "mark", which I paid to have authenticated by the Cashin Foundation back in 2007. Their response to me indicated that my Watermelon Tote was made after 1974 and after Cashin left Coach - so I assume mid 1970's.

I have seen that same "mark" used on actual Cashin bags, so it's really not exclusively about the year, it's about whether or not a bag was an actual Cashin design.

Some sellers on ebay are so clueless that they use Cashin's name to sell bags that were made long after she was dead.

Thanks so much! I am headed to the rehab boards, even though it's in real nice shape. Must admit, I'm feeling pretty smug about my $4 buy :) And I guess I'll quit hunting for my winter bag this season since obviously I'm going to carry this one. Amazing the difference between vintage leather and what all the designers now sell as leather. Thanks again for your time

Please authenticate. Handle missing?

I don't think it's genuine either. The Carriage emblem has several problems including being crooked AND off-center AND the color doesn't match. The rings for the missing handles have been replaced with cheaper ones that don't match the others' shape or color. AND the long strap for style 12948 is supposed to have chain links. The creed stamp should have a LEGIBLE Carriage logo on top, and that style is supposed to be Patent Leather with a very shiny almost metallic creed patch. Pictures of the real 12948 are below

Please report.

Thank you so much. You are awesome.

I'm pretty sure this is fake but I wanted to make sure. The Coach stamps on the back are too big and the color combination doesn't seem right.

OUCH! That makes my teeth hurt just to look at it. And you're right, the colors aren't even close to correct. The real 92096 is below.
