I don't remember seeing Carriage logos that early but it's possible, the creed is kind of sloppy and the lining doesn't fit with the style. Hardware's thin too.

Let me keep looking...

ETA - Thin Cheap badly made strap, looks like a fake Coach stamp on the buckle - I can't prove it's fake, but wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole. Most damning of all, there don't seem to be ANY discussions about that style number here at tPF. Since when has ANY genuine bag come and gone with no comments at all?

Absolutely fake.

Thank You Ladies, looks like it's already been pulled. :)

I still can't recognise it, but there are always a ton of handbag and business accessories that never make it into any catalogs or even to most of the full-price OR outlet stores. The quality seems consistent with Coach but that's all I can say.

Thanks so much. I'm just glad it wasn't a clear no, because I'm trying to get better at spotting fakes (mostly from this thread), and this one stumped me completely.

Comment: Tag on inside says made in china, so it is a replica, but it is a nice replica!

Just because the tag says made in china doesnt means its fake? Or does it?? I would just hate to see this removed if in fact it is actually real... LMK TIA :)

Hi Ladies, Please check this one out for me. I bought it thinking it was a musette, but after a search here (sorry can't find the link again - one of Hyacinths posts with an excellent catalogue picture showing comparison of musette and carrier bags) I think it's a carrier instead. This one is approx 17 by 10 by 5 inches and has the slip pocket on the back. Everything looks good, except in the post that I can no longer find, Hyacinth says the carriers were made from 1987 on, and isn't that when they shut down the NYC factory?

Probably some time in 1987. There are no exact dates available.

Coach transferred almost all their production to China in 2000. Whoever claimed something is fake because it says Made In China should be ignored, they don't know anything about Coach.

There aren't enough photos to tell if it's genuine.

Wow, thank you! Was I correct in that it was released around 2005?

Probably, 2005 was the only year when some style numbers used both numbers and letters and had four digits. Of course, to really confuse things, Coach remade a few of those styles for the Factory stores and put a zero in front of the older number to make it match the newer 5-digit format. But styles with the 4 "mixed" digits were originally made in 2005.

Thank you!

BTW, that Taft Bag that I rejected at the Savers, it had 3 letters and no numbers before the hyphen in the first part of the serial number. As far as you know, Coach never used a serial number like that, did they?

I would love to score a Taft bag but I have already bought one fake so I really don't want to buy another phony bag. Thanks!

The seller didn't mention the back pocket, so I thought it was a musette. It's HUGE!! Mine also has a greasy spot on the front pocket that doesn't look like it is going to shift easily - has laready been through the wash with the towels.

Adds to the character....

I think this might be my first british tan coloured bag?

This might help you:

I think this is the convo you are thinking of, and I believe I linked to the other conversation about Musettes that predated this one.

Yours looks like a carrier to me, which is kinda cool, I wish my Musette had a back pocket.

Thank you!

No, anything with an all-letter prefix is either a fake, or a very bad mistake that snuck through Quality Control. My money's on Door Number One.
