The strap and clip have probably been replaced. When something removeable like a strap or hangtag or even a D-ring doesn't match the rest of the bag, that doesn't prove the bag's fake, just that the part may have been replaced at some time.

The missing under-flap pocket is a bigger problem. If the bag's fake, that's the only proof of it, and remember, there's always a remote possibility that Coach made a similar style to the Convertible Clutch but without the pocket under the front flap. I haven't found any in my catalogs but only have a few for the entire time period from the mid-70s to the late 1980s. There don't seem to be any other obvious problems, and you've owned other versions of that style, I haven't. You're probably more qualified to say what's wrong about it than I am.

Thankyou Hyacinth:)
I appreciate your thoughtful response. I have seen and had some
Bags that have had replacement straps though it seems a shame
to add such an icky plastic replacement to a vintage bag. It certainly was the strap and clips that made me suspect the bag overall.
As far as the bag goes, You're right, I've owned quite a few versions of this bag - I will double check into some of the older NYC Convertible Clutch's I've owned to see if any have missed that inside pocket. If so, I'll feel good about the bag (but not about the cheap strap). However, If there is any chance of the bag being fake it's not a risk I'll wager.
I'll let you know after I check.
Thankyou again Hyacinth!

An update to the Convertible Clutch situation .. All of the Convertible Clutch's that I've owned and own have that inside open pocket right under the flap. So unless Coach made a similar style its too possible that its a fake. I know that it's not 100% provable but since there is nothing to prove for certain that it is authentic I'm trying to return it to the sender.
Thank you again Hyacinth for your help! :) :smile1:

Comments: Just checking...

I've never seen an inside Coach tag like that, and the "hangtag" and Coach stamp on the front of the bag have different fonts and NEITHER one of them look right. The striped lining isn't right either, I don't think that design was ever used by Coach OR Cashin.

Also, acording to Coach, the hangtag wasn't used across the Coach line until 1974 and is DIDN'T look like a guitar pick! The shape of that hangtag looks like the fake leather "samples" that fakers used to put on some of the counterfeit Signature Stripe bags a few years ago.

I'd have to see a lot more proof before I'd believe that was a Coach. I know they did some early pebbled leather bags but that lining just makes be cringe - since when, other than the Cashin disigns, did Coach use fabric linings in the early styles?

I also don't think Coach ever put their own name on metal zipper pulls.

Thanks so much!

Thanks so much!

First one looks like a genuine Legacy Zip Top Satchel from 2003. Don't ever trust the serial number a seller might post in the listing, the ONLY one to base an opinion on is the one in the photos. 9545 is the correct number.

Second, impossible to authenticate anything without a creed photo. Additional photos are now free to list at Ebay so sellers have no excuses not to post a full set of photos.
