I believe the right procedure, according to ebay, is to report a fake using the report button. Sellers really do need to have designer items authenticated BEFORE they list them.

However, I know there are ebay members who do contact sellers all the time to warn them that they have a fake listed. (I have done it myself in the past). Some sellers appreciate the warning, but many, not so nicely, tell you to mind your own business or they will report you to ebay for harassment.

:smile1:

I contacted the seller and told her that the bag is fake and provided a link to these posts. I have not received any reply so far. If I don't hear from her by tomorrow, I will report the listing.

I hope she reads here and does remove it. Listing fakes can get a good seller in a great deal of trouble.

Not only is the ADR an invalid prefix, but though I can't read all the wording on the creed, what I can read says: "...HANDCRAFTED FROM A CUSTOM DEVELOPED MATERIAL TRIMMED WITH...CLASSIC GLOVE TANNED LEATHER..."

That wording would never be on a leather bag.

Hello again! Could someone please authenticate this Willis please?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-AUT...WH_Handbags&hash=item484638ba3b#ht_1246wt_986
Item Number is 484638ba3
Seller is http://myworld.ebay.com/botticelli4grace/?_trksid=p4340.l2559

This bag looks ok to me, but I always run it by you ladies first! Thank you!

It looked ok until I came to the serial number.

"X" never was and never would have been a valid Coach month code. There are a few valid mistakes that we've seen with wrong month codes being used but in this case it's hard to believe that one of Coach's oldest plants would have made a mistake like that. However, it's BARELY possible so I'm going to say this one is questionable but more likely fake.

Please don't report it as fake, but I wouldn't recommend buying it.

Thank you for taking a look at it. On the first bag, is it too hard to make that call without actually seeing the bag in person? I will contact the seller for more information on the 2nd bag.

No, there's just no way to know when the first bag was actually made, or when Coach started using serial numbers. That information just isn't available.

Thank you for your help. Can you tell me what leads you to say probably instead of yes? Are there things that look slightly off?

Because any authentication here is ONLY an opinion. There's nothing in or on a bag that absolutely proves it's genuine. If a fake is good enough it can fool anyone. I like to remind posters once in a while that nothing is 100 percent certain, unless you bought the bag yourself directly from a Coach store. And even with Coach stores and moreso with their major retailers, there's still a tiny chance of a fake slipping through.

If you want absolute certainty, you need to appeal to a much higher Power than me for an answer.

The X was what got me too, thanks I appreciate it!

Thankyou so much Hyacinth! I love the City Bag Spectator! She is going to be really pretty when she's cleaned up!
Thanks again!:smile1:

That's the very first Coach I ever bought - same color too. The red just reached out and grabbed me as I walked past the counter. Still have it, in fact :D

It should spiff up really well.

Thank you for the help.

I see that this bag has been sold. I don't know if you are the purchaser (or if you are an experienced rehabber) but I see that the vendor recommends saddle soap to clean it up. Don't do that, check out the rehab and rescue thread for better advice.
