Dragging up an older quote for clarification & question about "Legacy" bags:

Coach has re-used some style and line names over and over again. "Legacy" is probably the champion, including the ones coming this fall there have been at least 5 separate AND different Legacy lines that I know of. Madison, Gramercy, Sonoma, Bleecker, Hamptons, as well as Penelope are just a few of the names that have been recycled.

Someone at Etsy (notorious for their blind eye when it comes to fakes & resellers of offshore factory crafted junk) has recently decided that Coach didn't make any Legacy bags until 2006, they quote as their resource this website:
http://handbags.lovetoknow.com/The_Full_History_of_Coach_Handbags
".. n 2006, in honor of the company's 65th anniversary, Krakoff debuted the Legacy collection. The Legacy collection incorporated suede and canvas into the collection."

Now - I do realize that many folks - myself included - can play a little fast and loose with the 'V' word (vintage :).. but 2006? I have Coach bags that I purchased that have Legacy in the name, and I'm certain they are a lot older than 2006 - am not at home to go check the date stamps.. but I do know for sure they do not have suede or canvas incorporated into them.. ie Patricia's Legacy..

Hyacinth - or other expert - could you possibly give me a sanity check on this? I would like to at least correct the misinformation that Etsy's resident "Coach Expert" is working from.. that website they're using as a reference doesn't exactly seem like a definitive resource. I'm not sure when "Legacy" started being used as part of Coach names, but certainly was well before 2006 - I am thinking late 80s (at risk of dating myself :)..?

Thanks in advance.. is it happy hour yet.

Hi Ladies, .. pulled a few items from Ebay's le_franco_ricain that I believe to be fake .. I just don't want to post them on the fakes forum unless I have your validation. thank you!

2. Item: Willis Bag 9927
Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Coa...WH_Handbags&hash=item2c669ebfb4#ht_500wt_1107
Comments: W seems pretty out of place for a month as the first letter on the creed.

3. Item: Stewardess 9525
Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Authentic-C...WH_Handbags&hash=item2ebfe7b981#ht_500wt_1107
Comments: Coach Stewardess bags weren't resurrected until 1997, so this 1995 bag = fake?

Thank you .. just don't want to report said seller unless I am validated in what I believe to be true!

Fake prefix, month and year codes and font on the Willis serial number plus overstretched overprocessed leather on the flap

The Stewardess could have been an outlet bag although the creed stamping is much too puffy to have ever been done in 1995. That didn't show up until they started producing them in China. Years of production often aren't easy to track down. I'm not 100 percent sure that one's fake, I just know I'd never bid on it.

Can you authenticate this listing?

I've never seen this style number. Thanks.

That's because it's a unique serial number and does NOT include the style number. Please read the Salearea Guides on Creeds and Serial numbers.

There's a previous post here where I went through a brief history of the "legacy" name on bags, the first use I can find was in Autumn 1994 but's it's possible it may have been used even earlier:
http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-694619-616.html#post21537075

If the "expert" wants to question the use of the name Legacy I'll be happy to send her - or better yet POST- scans of the catalog and Wayback Machine pages showing some of the different Legacy lines. Or you can refer her to this post and the one linked above.

She does NOT have permission to copy any information from my posts or from Salearea's Ebay Guides into her page, just for the record. Both the posts and Salearea Guides are Copyrighted.

Thank you Hyacinth. What gets me a bit wound up is that I don't understand why someone who's been selling a lot of Coach bags, and for quite some time, doesn't attempt to learn enough to at least not post the obvious fakes. Ugh ...
