And not just any creed photo, but one that can be compared to others in bags by sellers that are probably trustworthy. Without that I'm not comfortable authenticating newer bags because comparing details is the only thing I can go by, although some of the other details in the seller's photos make me lean strongly toward "genuine".

I think you're safe, but as always, pay with Paypal or a credit card so that any problems you might spot when you get the bag have a way of being reported and handled.

I heard back from the seller and they said they tried to take more photos of it but couldn't get any that were clearer. They said that the serial number on the creed is H1020-16485, so now I'll have to see if I can find other photos to compare it to.

I always pay by PayPal so at least I'd be covered in that regard, but it's such a hassle to have to deal with ending up with a Foach so I thought I should be careful and post here:)

Thank you for your help:)

Here are other versions of the same bag.

Most of them aren't much help. There are only a few with a clear creed photo and they're from the same plant but not the same month. However they look close enough to the one you're considering to make me think it's ok.

This probably doesn't help, but I have the bag in gold. I won it on eBay. Yes, the serial number is 16485.

It looks like a genuine Hamptons Weekend Small Tote, but it can't be considered "vintage" since that usually means at least 20 years old and this bag was just made in 2003.

Good morning & Thank you for your reply!
Oh well, someone bought it already...I will look for the perfect bag for me againi!
Thank you for your help. I am very happy to be here.

Thank you! You are amazing with your knowledge of Coach history! May I ask how did you become such an expert, through formal training, or self-taught?

I would love to get this bag and rehab it up, but it worries me that it does not have a serial number: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Gen...302?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item257053d58e

Do you think this is authentic?

Thanks again!

It's not Irregular and it's not 40 years old. It's a Dakota Ranger Bag style 4201 from 1992 so it's not vintage either, and there's nothing wrong with a 10 year old Coach having a magnetic closure.

Salearea's Ebay guide to Italian-made Coach bags mentions the Dakota line:

Self-taught, with the help of a lot of very experienced Coach lovers who were willing to share their knowledge.

The creed on the bag in the listing seems to be ok - and some vintage Coaches don't have serial numbers - but there's no way to say if it's genuine without a full set of photos. I'm also wondering why the seller isn't showing any photos of the front of the bag - seems that should be the primary photo, don't you think? How is anyone even supposed to know what style is is from just the creed and the back?

There's no way I'd advise bidding without more photos, there could be staining or damage that two very small photos don't show.
