Hyacinth - Thank you for your expertise. It's good to know it is a Coach. I thought it looked well-made enough to be one. I was changing my mind about buying it because I found something I have been waiting for...But, too the pictures were not very revealing on her ad, so, with my lack of knowledge and only a partial picure, all I really had to go on was the serial. I had no clue it was 10 years old...what I can see of it looks to be in good shape. Will be nice to get it here and actually see the whole bag inside and out.
Thank you again for your help.

You're welcome. :smile1:

Thank you Hyancinth, you are incredibly helpful! I don't know how you do it.

I won't post any scathing feedback on the seller's profile :) I am glad I asked for help here first. When I saw that seam/stitching in the strap I thought for sure it was a fake, so thanks for letting me know that it's inconclusive.

It's really hard to use odd stitching on older bags as an authenticity proof, there was just too much variation. And even with the 3 bags mentioned in the posts that all apparently cam out of the same plant within a month or two of each other, there are differences.

Without having a bag that's absolutely certain to be genuine to use for comparison, and without knowing with absolute certainty that Coach did not make any production changes at that plant within that month (including hiring people who were still learning their jobs) it's impossible to ever be sure that those small differences mean there's a problem. There's a lot more precision found in the recent bags than could ever be found in the older ones.

Authentication older bags is almost as much guesswork as it is experience - not just knowing what Coach actually did, but making educated guesses about what they MIGHT have done. And the longer you do it, the more you keep being reminded that "the one consistent thing about Coach is its inconsistency".

It looks like one of the "six-digit" fakes. 4C-9911. It's on the List

Must be the Macys that sell $20 Specials under the "L" tracks just off Canal Street.

I know...and the long/short story is that she's friends with my boss and when I emailed her questioning the authenticity she emailed MY boss and wanted to know who did I think I was questioning her obviously authentic bag.....LOL

We need to see photos of the creed patch and serial number for the first one.

The second one looks ok.

Sorry about that. I wasn't sure how to post a pic from my phone. Is this what you need?

Please check the Salearea Guides posted at Ebay for a guide on how to find the production information from a serial number.:

Comments: I bid on it before I thought to look up the serial number because it looked sturdy enough to be a coach...but, now that I've just won it (was hoping to be outbid), I can't find the serial number online to find out what bag style the serial number belongs to. I hope the link works. I can't find a link to original listing. If not authentic, I want to stop her before it is shipped out.
Thank you for your help.
It's authentic.

The bag is from 2002 so you won't find a 10-year old bag on the Coach site and there probably aren't a lot of them on ebay.

Is this bag authentic?

comment: i did a lot of researches of this bag however i just couldn't find any photos or anything.. i won the bid already but i can still try to stop her, please help me. she claimed to have this bag for her birthday, so she doesnt have any receipt or anything else.
It's authentic.

There are fakes of that style and in many cases, the fakes have a valid (or semi-valid) serial number. But no worries with this one!

I know that there are not enough pics to authenticate this bag, and I’m not actually interested in bidding on it, but I have a couple of questions.

When I saw this bag I thought it was a small hippie but the vendor lists the serial number as: N2-JOD-9135 and I know that any coach with a 3-part number is a fake. But then it occurred to me that it may actually be “No JOD-9135” and the seller misread it, what do you think?

My other question is “Do they really call it a “nipple flap”?!

Thanks in advance for your help!

I've been seeing several listings with No. copied (incorrectly) as either N2 or N9. They're misreading the underscore as part of a number.

As for authenticity, wait for someone who knows better than I.

The creed and serial look almost worn away, and English is obviously not the seller's first language. So it's probably a safe bet that she read "No" as "N2" and "Hippie" as "Nipple".

As we've said before, never expect a seller to copy a serial number correctly. And the two incorrect letters in the names are very easy for someone unfamilar with the European alphabet to get confused, she probably has no idea what a hippie actually is.
