Hyacinth said:If photos of the creed verify that it's genuine, it's a Gilford Bag from around 1992, not earlier as the seller thought. The style number was 9913. It was only made for maybe 2 or 3 years max in the very early 90s. That "touchlock" was only used on handbags for a limited time and it listed for $236 in late 1992.

Comments: I really want this one but has that pesky J8Y creed, so I need an expert!
Hello again,
Thanks again for your help (your link was very informative). Here is a photo of the creed as provided by the seller:

I think that one's fake, for the same basic reason as why the bag in my previous answer is genuine - both 9165 and 9166 are shown in the Fall 2000 catalog as NEW styles. It's very unlikely you'd find one made in Fall 1998. The stye number sequence (which you can never depend on, but sometimes Coach DID assign numbers in sequence) shows the both style numbers fit into the sequence of bags introduced in 2000.
There's always a tiny chance that numbers could have been played with so I don't recommend reporting it or telling the seller it's fake, but I would strongly advise against buying it.
You're a life saver! Thanks so much. Don't know who pays you but you deserve a raise!!![]()

All genuine - Helen's Legacy, Quincy Bag and probably a Dinky Bag
Hi,
Could you please help authenticate this coach bag?
Thanks in advance!

Thank you very much for taking time to check this request.I'm not comfortable with that bag, the workmanship and look of the leather doesn't feel quite as good as others listed on Ebay. There's no proof at all that it's fake and the poor quality of the photos isn't much help, but I've looked at several listed on Ebay and they have the fabric on the base centered - it's very important to state that NOT all Coach bags have the base fabric nicely centered! - whereas this one doesn't.
Again, it's not the kind of thing you can ever depend on to prove or disprove something's genuine, but it makes me think you may want to keep looking.

Comments: I asked seller for a close up of the creed patch and this is the response I got;
"Thank you for your interest in this auction. This purse does come from a smoke and pet free home. I think what you are wanting to know is if this is an authentic coach bag and the answer is no its not. That is why i did not advertise it as such along with the low price. The creed is the same as an authentic coach, however it has different characteristics than an authentic coach. But, its still a beautiful purse..."
Yesterday I asked the seller to remove the listing if they re-list, specify this is not a real Coach. I waited all evening for them to act on that and when they didn't, I reported it to eBay. I see this morning the auction is still up. Does eBay require more than one complaint to remove an item? Also there are two bids on this but it appears they are both by the same person?
