Received this as a gift, could you assist with identifying name/year?? There is a long attached crossbody strap as well.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi,

Would you mind authenticating this item? I'm
Assuming that I'll need to request more photos but any info you can provide in the meantime would be greatly appreciated. Also, I've never seen this style, so where would I post to find out more about it (such as the style name)? Thank you! (PS. I'm messaging from my phone so please excuse any formatting issues, and if this is a repeat post as I'm unable to do a search here.)

Item: 230762905265
Listing: Vintage 1970s-1980s Coach Handbag/Purse - Medium Brown Leather - Made in USA

Thanks so much Hyacinth, yes, that's what the bag looks like! I'm bummed to hear it was only short time thing, seems like a great bag. Is there any way to post the complete dimensions and colors it was made in on it? Sometimes knowing those helps in searching online, thanks again! Fingers crossed.

Sure.

I just noticed that I had the wrong information about the dimensions in my first post - must have been looking at another bag on the same page. Sorry!

If photos of the creed verify that it's genuine, it's a Gilford Bag from around 1992, not earlier as the seller thought. The style number was 9913. It was only made for maybe 2 or 3 years max in the very early 90s. That "touchlock" was only used on handbags for a limited time and it listed for $236 in late 1992.

Another oldie but (hopefully) goodie:

Item: Vintage New York City USA COACH Burgundy SLIM SATCHEL COMPACT CLUTCH purse 9425
Listing number: 190604053795
Seller: kristenwestlake

Comments: Is this bag actually burgundy red? Or will it be a reddish brown? I'm looking for a true dark burgundy red purse. Also, any information in regards to this style -- like name, year this bag was made -- would be wonderful. Thanks!!

It's impossible to tell the exact year on older bags, but I'm sure if you contact the seller she'll be glad to give you a concise description of the color. It could have been made any time between the late 1970s to about 1987 although I think Burgundy was mainly a 1980s color.

The "Slim Satchel Compact" name is correct,

Just making sure, but this one is authentic?

To add to Hyacinth's response, I just want to say that kristenwestlake has listed fakes before, discussed on this forum:

Oops, I must have spelled the name wrong when I searched the seller on the forum because nothing popped up. Since I don't want to chance a fake, I'm passing on the satchel. Thanks for the information!!

COACH Hall of Shame - Post Coach fakes here!

If memory serves, she accidently listed a fake once. Many sellers have done the same. But she's made a point to have her items authenticated before listing since then. There's a big difference between making ONE mistake and making the same mistakes over and over because you don't care whether your items are genuine or not.

I've made mistakes authenticating, but make every effort not to make the same mistake twice.

The bag is genuine, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from that seller myself.

Yes. If it hadn't been, I would have said so.

Okay, thanks for all of the information! I'm going to think about the satchel some more and then make a decision.

Wow. Thank you so much for the info. I'll request a creed photo from the seller. However, he does note the serial number as being 250 9216, not 9913. Could that mean it's not authentic?

Thank you again! VERY helpful!
