I don't know what advice to give, but the whole creed stamp looks off to me. There are 2 year codes but if the bag is genuine, only the 4 for 1994 could possibly be the valid one. So why is the 7 there? Also, the font of the creed stamping itself especially the Made in the United States line at the bottom isn't quite right, the "No" in front of the number also looks wrong, and the Coach logo at the top looks more like what was used in the middle to late 1980s but without "Leatherware" underneath it. It just seems like a hodgepodge of 3 or 4 different creed styles.

Maybe it was put together as a temporary stamp until the plant could get a permanent one made, or maybe it's a fake. I can't find another one like it and don't have enough information or photos of the Daypack to even make a guess.

As to the color, AFAIK Coach only did a purple shade in late 1993 (maybe carried over briefly into 1994?) and again some time around 1997, but both of those were brighter shades than what that Daypack looks like. Neither could have been mistaken for black.

There's no way to be sure either way. If you've already paid, you can take photos when you receive it and maybe someone familiar with Daypacks can look at the bag's details, but right now all I have to go by is the creed and there's a lot there I'm uncomfortable with.

EDITED TO ADD - I did find a pic of another creed with what looks like the same fonts and which was also found in a fake bag and has an invalid month code and supposedly from a different plant AND has an incorrect style number:

You are a godsend! Thank you!

I canceled the transaction and it's fine; I got a Manor, 2 Courts and a Willis over the past week so it's not a huge heartbreak. I'm just glad I dodged that bullet, whew! :wtf: It is true, vintage coach CAN be faked!!

I told her there are authenticity issues so I hope she doesn't put it up again! She refunded my money but I hope she puts a disclaimer that there's doubt whether her item is real.

She can't do that, Ebay rules don't allow any kind of authenticity disclaimer. Their rules say every name brand item must be known to be authentic or the seller can't list it, and auctions with disclaimers will be removed.

And yes, classic and vintage bags are faked - a LOT. Most people have no idea how big the problem is because 98 percent of buyers aren't familiar with serial numbers, production codes and creed dating and designs, and that's how most older leather fakes are spotted. That's why all those internet "authenticity guides" are so completely useless, the details needed to spot a classic fake are different not just for every style but change based on the year and location where it was made. That's why someone familiar with as many details about classic bags as possible needs to look at them. I'd estimate that 5 to 10 percent of classic and vintage leather bags are definite or probable fakes.

There's a lot more involved than seeing if it has a YKK zipper - and a good percentage of genuine vintage bags don't follow that "rule" either.

Sorry, I can't find it in any of my files or catalogs. There was a similar one in Signature fabric and a center stripe done in about 2005, and Coach did a lot of bags and accessories with dog-leash clips during 2005 and early 2006 so that would be my best guess.

The Signature wallet was called a Hamptons Signature French Purse so yours was probably something like Hamptons Leather (French purse, I'm not sure if that's the right style name).

That's the best I can do, maybe someone else might own that style and be able to identify it.

Comments: Please authenticate. I think it's cute but wondering if it's ok.
The keychain in the listing is authentic.

However, there have been several posts on that seller on her previous ID (adonai08) where she was found to have a long history of shill bidding. Personally, I wouldn't do business with a seller who shills.

Here's a post where someone asked about the seller and was found to be shilling: http://forum.purseblog.com/ebay-forum/how-to-report-shill-bidder-on-bay-687590-4.html#post20012719

And another reference: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-sh...-deals-rare-finds-636857-12.html#post17454011

Although the listing in question is a fixed price item, buyers might want to consider whether to buy from her.

By law (and by ebay policy), she cannot relist, with or without an authenticity disclaimer. Each listing MUST be authentic or it can't be listed. And if authenticity can't be determined, the item can't be posted.

Wow, thanks! I won't be purchasing but I was tempted because I really liked it.

Hello again,

I've been eying this particular style for a while now, but kept losing/missing end times for auctions. I'm hoping that either of these is okay, since I already let about three of them get away. Thank you! :)

1. I don't recommend seller #1, prazi82. The seller stole the gallery picture from this seller's listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NWT-COACH-P...742?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item19cc5a07f6

Several of her other listing use stolen stock photos. When a seller uses someone else's copyrighted work, whether another seller's or a website's, there's no way of knowing what you'll receive from that seller.

2. Looks fine.
