Thanks so much Hyacinth! I'm really excited for the Manor bag, I don't have one yet nor do I have a white bag. Hopefully I don't have to clean it too much.

One more...

Item: Vintage Coach Daypack #9960
Listing number: Etsy #72476006
Seller: CZvintage
Link: http://www.etsy.com/transaction/72476006
Comments: I know no picture of creed (listing says its serial is # 4D7-9960) but other details okay? Also the seller says it Eggplant Purple, but it looks black in the photographs to me. Did the daypack come in dark/eggplant purple once upon a time? It has nickel hardware.

The serial number as she's posted it doesn't make any sense - there are 2 numbers and one letter when the opposite would be normal, and the arrangment isn't right either. Please either ask the seller to send you a clear photo of the creed and serial number, or take photos when you get the bag. She may have just made a mistake in copying the numbers, but that's just another reason why an actual photo of the creed and serial is so important. I'm not even sure what year it's supposed to have been made and can't tell if Eggplant was a valid color that year.

It seems to be ok but I wish the C pattern was more clear. Please wait for more opinions though.
I'd like to see more pictures of the bag.

They should show more pictures of the underside/inside of the front pocket flaps, the interior lining and a clearer picture of the creed.

In comparing to another listing for a bag made in the same month and plant, there are some differences in the creed. It might be blurriness or angle of pic but the lettering looks thicker, the word "detail" and the "F" in the serial number look off as compared to this listing:

Unless they'll send more pictures, I'd stay away from this one.

Comments: I'm very tempted to break my ban for this!
It appears to be okay.
Can one of you lovely people authenticate this wallet. Thank you.

It looks okay.

You took a BIG chance, but you already know that. :graucho:
There's NO way to even make a guess with just one photo and a new seller. Charge up your camera and post photos when you get it.

Thanks Hyacinth. Can't wait to get her for her photo session. Thank you.

There's no way to authenticate a bag with just one picture.

Thanks BeenBurned. Just did want to be sure Zoe was made in Black Patent with silver hardware.

I am sure I found one earlier but then read a post on tpf that stated black patent Zoe was never made with silver hardware.

You're welcome. I am not sure of the color/hardware combinations on the Zoes. You can probably get more information on the chat thread.

But you'd still need more pictures if you wanted the bag authenticated. Just because the color and hardware might be right doesn't mean that the bag is genuine.
thanks so much! I wish i knew about this place a few months ago...
it is an incredible service you ladies are providing, and very much appreciated.
there is nothing worse than feeling like you got screwed over a bag.
You're welcome.

That is really weird and quite disconcerning...

I asked for a photograph of the creed and she sent it to me. The serial she posted is correct, is this a sign of a fake? Should I cancel the transaction (I already bought and paid for this).

Eek! Thank you

I don't know what advice to give, but the whole creed stamp looks off to me. There are 2 year codes but if the bag is genuine, only the 4 for 1994 could possibly be the valid one. So why is the 7 there? Also, the font of the creed stamping itself especially the Made in the United States line at the bottom isn't quite right, the "No" in front of the number also looks wrong, and the Coach logo at the top looks more like what was used in the middle to late 1980s but without "Leatherware" underneath it. It just seems like a hodgepodge of 3 or 4 different creed styles.

Maybe it was put together as a temporary stamp until the plant could get a permanent one made, or maybe it's a fake. I can't find another one like it and don't have enough information or photos of the Daypack to even make a guess.

As to the color, AFAIK Coach only did a purple shade in late 1993 (maybe carried over briefly into 1994?) and again some time around 1997, but both of those were brighter shades than what that Daypack looks like. Neither could have been mistaken for black.

There's no way to be sure either way. If you've already paid, you can take photos when you receive it and maybe someone familiar with Daypacks can look at the bag's details, but right now all I have to go by is the creed and there's a lot there I'm uncomfortable with.

EDITED TO ADD - I did find a pic of another creed with what looks like the same fonts and which was also found in a fake bag and has an invalid month code and supposedly from a different plant AND has an incorrect style number:

And yes, if you can cancel the transaction, do it.

This is an interesting style and color. Is it authentic? Am I reading the serial number correctly; JHM for the prefix?

TIA.

That's the number. But the prefix obviously ain't right. And that creed is REALLY crooked - I'm not feeling the love for that one. The seller sold a black one in the same style but never showed a creed photo for it.
