Thanks noshoepolish, that's very helpful info! I will ask about that. Which ones appear misshapen on the pictures to you? It's hard for me to tell as I don't own the bag and haven'ts seen it in person!

You want to check the condition and "shape" of these bags. The Beekmans can get warped on the flap if they are oput in a drenching rain. Also check the outside rear pocket to make sure that it has not come loose from the seam. Check the dowel to make sure it is not broken or warped. Watch for coffee stains and white out on the bags. And of course ask about smoke free homes.

If you are ok with bags that are mishapen, they appear to be fine, esp if they are just for you.

It's hard to say with either one - the first one has a few odd details, and the second one is so badly photographed that it's hard to tell what it's supposed to be. At first glance they seem to be ok but I can't be 100 percent sure, let's just call it 90 percent. There's not enough there to make me sure they're genuine but definitely not enough to even think of reporting them as fake.

As for the questionable sites you found similar bags listed, a site selling fakes often steals photos of genuine bags from Coach.com or from legitimate sellers so often that doesn't prove anything either way, or the sites may actually be selling genuine bags - anything's possible. What someone might actually get could be very different from the photos.

More opinions are welcome.

1. ???
2. Might be okay but the pictures are too dark to see details.

Thank you both so much!

Item: Maroon Flap Bag (Made in NYC, circa 1980s)
Seller: Salvation Army Store $20
Dimensions: 8” high, 11.5” wide, and 3” wide

Comments: I have to quit buying rehab projects! But I didn’t have this style/size bag and this one is wine-colored and made in New York! So I had to buy it!

And I vowed that I would never tackle another bag with verdigris and this one has a ring of green crud around all parts of the turnlock – inside and out and on the zipper thread,s too! Speaking of verdigris, I found a penny in the zip pocket that was so green it was furry! I scraped off some of the gunk and it is from 1970. I hope it will be my “lucky penny” for this rehab!

The bag is covered inside and out with a fine powder but it doesn’t smell like mildew so I am hoping that it’s just dirt!

Please authenticate and tell me anything you can about this interesting bag and I would be very interested in knowing the Coach name for the color. I will post more pics in the next message. The hangtag is finished only on one side. Thanks so much!

More pics of the maroon flap bag. I had to clean some of the dirt off the creed patch to photograph it!

Is it the "Convertible Clutch"? I'm not sure - but that was just my first impression of the style and the measurements.

As to color - I don't know the names of those "reddish" hues. I know there was a Burgundy, and I believe there was an Oxblood, but I don't know the years for those colors.

I carefully pry both parts of the turnlock completely OFF the bag when I rehab. It's much easier to clean the brass parts with Brasso, let them dry, and then clean the leather underneath. When the bag is ready, I carefully put the turnlock parts back on. I haven't lost one yet!

Definitely wait for other opinions on this!!!!

Thanks so much! I've never removed the turnlock for cleaning but that is great advice! Do you feel that the bag is genuine or are you unsure?

It's seems a bit big for a clutch, it's about the same size as a city bag but not quite as deep.

She was just too special to leave behind. They had several other coach bags at the SA that were priced much higher, including a dreadful fake! I suppose this one was cheaper because of the condition but I thought that she was the gem of the bunch!

The measurements and details match the Convertible Clutch closely enough, and I agree with DemRam. Interesting find, and good luck with the rehab!
