Item: Lula's Legacy????
I think this is a Lula's Legacy based on what I researched on the internet. I bought this back some time around 1996 or 1997 from a store that sold items from other stores that experienced damage or probably salvage goods (returned goods). The creed number is a little hard to read but it appears to match the Lula's legacy number based on what I researched (9952). I did find some similar bags on the internet that said it was vintage and made in costa rica or turkey.... but my bag says it was made in the united states. Because I carried small bags during the time I bought this bag, I stored it away and pulled it back recently several years later. It appears to be a thick, soft, heavy leather. Is this bag real? Is this bag vintage? What year was this bag made? How do I care for this bag (cleaning and moisturizing)? I am attaching PDF photos. Thanks in advance.

I'm not familiar with the actual bag so I'm basing my opinion on what I know about Coach and also, in comparing to others of the same style.

Note that your bag is indicating being made in 2010.

I'd like to hear other opinions, but these are my observations:
1. I find it interesting that "craftsmanship" is split between 2 lines, but without a hyphen.

2. There are run-on words in: "itssuperiorcraftsman"

3. I don't see a problem with the horse and carriage logo on the creed

I did find the following listings for the same style, but this one made in 2009 and it has the same lack of hyphenation and the same run-on words:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NWOT-COACH-...401?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item2569f363b1

And this is identical to the bag you have, including the month, year, plant code and color:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/COACH-Haile...916?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item415f8a182c

Both comps and your bag all have the same factory code, 82.

And then there's this listing, also from the same #82 factory but made in 2011. It has different wording on the creed, different spacing (i.e., lack of run-on words) and "craftsmanship" is on one line:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-NEW-CO...399?pt=US_CSA_WH_Handbags&hash=item19cb78592f

It's possible that Coach realized its mistake and in 2011 changed the settings for stamping the creed as well as changing the text.

I hope someone else might have some insight.

Thanks BeenBurned, I appreciate you and anyone else taking a look! I hope someone else has insight too, I have a limited amount of time to return the bag :(

I've never seen the horse and carriage logo on a creed before, under what circumstances would it be used?

Isn't it funny that I thought the horse and carriage logo was odd but didn't notice the run-on sentence! I noticed the wording difference, I thought the wording in the last link you sent me was the incorrect version. Don't leather exterior bags say "finest full grain cowhide leather" or something to that effect, whereas fabric on the outside bags with leather trims say "...from the finest materials and leather" ?

I am getting confused by all this. Wouldn't the world be a grand place if everyone was honest?

Lastly, (I appreciate you guys so much) I got a Coach dustbag that is brown satin fabric with the COACH lozenge in the bottom right corner. My others (both brown, one satin with cream tie and one original with red tie) have the horse and carriage. Is this a legit dustbag?

Ugh I have Coach on the brain these days! Thanks again BeenBurned, you rock! :smile1:

It is confusing. As we've said many times, the most consistent thing about Coach is its inconsistency.

I'll try to answer some of your questions but also, please wait to see if there are other opinions. Note that during the holiday season, responses might be slower in coming since we all try to have lives outside tPF.

1. I'm not sure when some of the creeds began having the HAC logo, but I think it was approximately when the new Madison line came out. My leather Sabrina has it from 2008.
2. Coach has changed and varied the wording, fonts, layout, etc. on creeds over the years. Hyacinth's post here might give some insight: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-sh...enticity-questions-94198-23.html#post11024432
3. Dustbags have also changed over the years and there are limited edition dustbags that were made for LE pieces. They colors, materials, drawstrings and markings can be different, yet still authentic. There are also dustbags that are made for certain collections and/or items that might not normally come with a dustbag. For example, the exotics wallets (snakeskin) came with a tan flannel dustbag with brown lettering.

Additionally, authenticity of a bag cannot and shouldn't be based on something that's removable or interchangable like dustbags and hangtags. Fake dustbags and/or hangtags might be included with an authentic item if the originals were lost and the owner doesn't know the difference. Or authentic props might be included with a fake in order to give the implication that the item is authentic.

Again, I don't know whether your bag is authentic or not at this point because there are also some well-faked styles and unless one has a known authentic version actual item, made in the same month, year and plant as another and can do a side by side comparison, it's hard to tell the difference.

If you don't get a definitive answer, I'd (personally) recommend returning it. I wouldn't want to have paid for authentic and not know that it's what I got.

Hey everyone, I had a quick authenticity question. I just want to make sure I'm buying a real Coach product before I bid. Thank you in advance.

Hi,
I have a question to ask. In what year did Coach started making the Andrea Slim bag ( Style number 9073)? Is it in 1998 or 1999? Is this serial number right? B8D 9073, Made in United States. Thanks in advance.

While you wait for Hyacinth to check in, I recommend you post the pictures she sent you as it's impossible to authenticate a bag with one picture in the listing and a description that the leather is beautiful.

Additionally, style numbers with 05XX have been associated with fakes, although in some of the cases, the prefix of the serial number was different.

Pictures are needed in order to respond to your question, too.

I have a Black Hailey 14304 made in 2009 instead of 2010 and was bought from Coach outlet directly. The creed looks very similar to MissBehavin_40's one.

I have uploaded my creed for your reference. Hope it helps.

h0riz0n, that is so kind of you! It helps enourmously to know that you personally bought your Hailey and yet our creeds have the same funny little run-on sentence. I have been fondling this bag all morning, it's such amazing quality and workmanship I just can't believe it's a phoney. I hate phoney people and I hate phoney bags, GRR it makes me so angry the world is such a place as this! < rant over :) >

This forum is a wonderful place, thank you everyone who helped, h0riz0n and BeenBurned (I still hope to hear what Hyacinth says!) :smile1:
