Thanks for your help :-).

Sorry about that! I printed out this article:
http://reviews.ebay.com/Coach-Serial-Numbers-the-Basic-Facts_W0QQugidZ10000000034886433

This was the paragraph I referenced:
Coach serial numbers will usually have at least 7 digits with only one exception - items made for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta. Any Coach item that has only 5 or fewer digits in the serial number, and / or is missing the “No” in front of the number, is almost 100 percent certain of being fake. If the creed also says “Made in Korea” the “fake” percentage goes up to 100 percent. Every Coach made in or after 1994 will always have at least three digits in the first half of the number including a one or two-number year code in the center position. If there’s just a letter and a number, or only 2 letters and no number, the item is FAKE - no exceptions. “NT-4903” is the most common example but there are dozens more.

So that was what I was referring to when I said my print out:)

This was our conversations:

Dear grahamcrckr,
Do you have a picture of the creed and where does it say it is made from?

THanks!

Dear jjmckillip62,

It is made in Korea, the picture will not take. It is imprinted into the leather.

- grahamcrckr

Dear grahamcrckr,
Hmm. I didn't think korea made any of the coach bags.

THanks!

- jjmckillip62

Dear jjmckillip62,

They have been for over 70 years. Check google.

Thanks for you interest.

I hope this all helps explains things:) And hopefully I didn't make a mistake!

Tell HER to check Google "Coach bags Korea". The only "Coaches" she'll find being made in Korea are all fakes, and Googling "Coach made in Korea" will bring up the same thing I said in my Guide - Coach has NEVER made bags in Korea. Any internet "ask" site that says they have has NO knowledge whatsoever about genuine Coach.

Please read the links for yourself and then send them to that nitwit and suggest that she actually READ them. Then tell me where it says that Coaches are made in Korea.

I was already going to tell her to google it herself:) I did and it came up with all of those things you said:) I just paused for a moment afraid to do it! lol!

Sometimes you have to hit someone over the head with a hammer to get their attention. And if she's going to be using Google to back up her claim, she needs to actually read the blasted links. Better yet, tell her to come here and find out the truth from someone who's not only done actual RESEARCH but can back up every statement she makes with actual proof.

It's the same problem as those dumb-arse internet authenticiy guides - someone reads some nonsense somewhere even though they never take the time or make the effort to find out if it's true or not, and suddenly they're an expert. Sheesh. She'll be writing her own Authenticity guide next.

There's no reason to question the first part of the serial number - what about it don't you think is right? The bag looks ok, made in 2001.

I thought that the first three digits of the serial number had to be letter (month code), number (year), letter (plant code). So I was confused about the serial number that started with F13.

Thanks for verifiying!

I just rehabbed a City Bag that had been in the back of my closet for a long time - it had gotten a stain on the strap - it is a red City Bag and I just let it sit there until I read about the magic that some of the TPF's have done with vintage bags. I cannot remember how old this bag is - is says it was made in New York City and the numbers stamped on the creed are 811-9744. Am curious to find out just how old this bag is. Thank you for your help.

I assume you know it's authentic? If so, it was probably made in the later 1980's.

With those"random" serial numbers it's impossible to be positive of the year unless you know the year a particular bag was "introduced" (which I think was around 1987 for the City Bag).
