Hi, long-time admirer, first-time poster. This forum helped me choose my Rebecca Minkoff Nikki in gray (can't remember the proper color name) and Linea Pelle Dylan Medium Tote in espresso. I'm looking for a smaller bag, crossbody style and am interested in a vintage Coach Willis bag. Found this on eBay:

Item: VINTAGE COACH WILLIS BAG - BLACK - EXCELLENT CONDITION
Listing number: 220773647173
Seller: jswelbar

Comments: I hope for some tips because I'm scouring local vintage shops for Coach bags. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

There don't seem to be any problems with authenticity. What worries me is a Negative from a buyer unhappy with a bag's condition, and several "neutral" Positives that I know I've left myself for items I wasn't happy with but didn't want to go through the hassle of returning.

There's no proof but when a seller sells used Coaches all in one or two common colors, it makes me wonder if the bags are being re-dyed. Black is especially easy to retouch, and older black bags should show at least some wear around the bottom piping or a little color fading. But the blacks on her bags are all nice and evenly-colored and the turnlock brasses are nice and shiny - sometimes with older purses there's such a thing as TOO perfect. As I said, just a gut feeling. More opinions would help.

As for the second part of your question, shopping for older Coaches can be a minefield since there are more fakes of older bags than anyone realizes. Many of them are excellent quality both in construction and the grade of leather. Without knowing the basics about serial numbers it's strongly recommended that you only buy from shops that offer a 100 percent refund if the buyer isn't happy or finds out the bag is counterfeit.

Many older bags will have one of the known fake serial numbers from the Fakes List, but not all. Learn the basics of classic and vintage Coach serial numbers here:

In fact if you scan all the posts in that thread you'll find a lot of information, although some of what's in the older posts is outdated and invalid.

I have seen those bags at the outlets recently. They have a bunch of colors and styles in the heritage stripe line, which in my opinion is nothing like the original fp heritage stripe I am used to from a few years ago. even the authentic versions don't feel or look very authentic. the wrappings on the handles I think might be from ordering from the outlets online sales maybe? or the person just did it themselves.
the signature stripe items are also available in various colors and styles and the tote does look familiar.

they look authentic but I am by no means an expert but I have seen those at the outlets

Seen some of these at the factory outlet in Orl. Fl. about 3 weeks ago, or at least, a lot like it. Can't comment if they are fakes or not (since I am far from expert) but these styles are out there.

I'm not questioning that Coach made similar styles. Many fakes are copies of similar styles.

But the wrapping? I've purchased items that were wrapped as direct from company but the wrapping was foam padding on the hardware, hangtags, etc to protect them from scratches and damage and the whole bag would be wrapped in tissue and inserted into a plastic package but I've never seen what this listing is showing.

And why would the seller do it? If it's to add to the desirability of the bag, why do such a sloppy and shoddy job at it?

yeah the wrapping caught my eye right away because being outlet bags, those aren't wrapped(I have never seen one wrapped still -maybe if you ask for one?) but then I remembered the online outlet and just thought maybe that could be why but it would look better(I would hope!) if it was done by Coach, unless it was unwrapped/partially rewrapped without much care by the seller.
to us it looks sloppy but you never know what the seller might think, they may think it looks great! I mean, some of the pictures are blurry and not the greatest so who knows what they are thinking.

They're all bags that have been listed at the last few online Outlet sales. The Penelope Leather Hippie Bag is a twin to one that I bought except for color. Both bags I bought came with the strap O-rings on the bags wrapped in white foam and with the zipper pulls wrapped in white tissue - I haven't used either one yet and just checked since they're both still partly wrapped.

I haven't bought any totes or satchels online but the bags I bought from the sale DID come stuffed and wrapped in several layers of plain heavy tissue and then inside a branded plastic bag just like in the photos. I'd say they're genuine, I recognise all the styles from the sale.

ETA - And the plastic bags also have stock labels on them with the style name and number.

The ones I got from the factory was wrapped in plain paper stuff, not what that seller has done there so it looked off to me but that was two outlets in Orlando, not sure what other places do.

TIA for your help!

She added a photo of the creed for me. Would someone please just take a quick look at the creed photo and make sure it still looks good? I believe it does, but I want to be sure since she does not accept returns. Thank you so much!
Looks good to me.
