Hyacinth, thank you very, very, very much for your help! I feel rather silly for having committed this faux pas, as I am normally very, very careful when it comes to first verifying the authenticity of brand name items that I am buying on eBay. I guess this time, I was simply in a hurry, and the question of authenticity just slipped right past me! I will be much more alert next time. :-) Thank you again!

You're welcome. Please don't ever hesitate to ask before you bid. :smile1:

As an update on my failed purchase, this is the reply that the seller sent me when I asked for a full refund:

"As my policy states the Coach bag is returnable for a full refund. Please return it in the same condition as you received it. I will take it back to the Coach outlet close to my house to verify it is retuned in EXACTLY the same condition as I shipped it to you. Thank you, Please return to [address redacted]. Provide tracking number."

I think I laughed when I read the "Coach outlet" part. I really hope that this seller will not try to pull any tricks on me. I also hope that she will not be difficult about the shipping fees. Any suggestions as to how I can bulletproof myself against potential fraud? Although I guess technically, I've already been fraud-ed. ;)

Thank you!

Be sure you take photos of the rest of the bag and of all the shipping materials that came with it especially the box with the seller's address. You may even want to begin an Ebay Dispute immediately just to show the seller that you're serious about wanting a refund and that you know how to protect yourself - that's would I would do. Be SURE to specify if you can that the item is a proveable counterfeit and that the seller should NOT be allowed to re-sell the bag. I'm not sure how much information you can send to Ebay but maybe other posters can tell you. You may also want to supply a link either to the Fakes List here or to Daria48's Fakes list posted at Ebay's Reviews and Guides site, both give the same information:

http://reviews.ebay.com/Fake-Coach-Serial-Numbers-NT-4903-and-more_W0QQugidZ10000000002744619

Amd of course, you want to return it in a way that gives you some kind of delivery confirmation showing that she received it. I hope she DOES take it to a Coach outlet, I'd like to see the manager's face when she tries to read that creed.

Other suggestions are welcome.

Lol, thanks BB!

You're welcome

Comments: Sigh, I bought this because I decided I wanted a little leather backpack, and this fit the bill and just happened to be Coach and was within my price range, so I bought it up. The question of authenticity never even crossed my mind until I received the item and took a look at the Coach creed, which looked, well, unprofessional. Ungrammatical, with words split between lines.

Question: If I return the item to the seller, is it within my rights to also request a refund of my shipping fees, both to and from the seller? The seller does offer a 3-day return policy, and the shipping fees aren't exorbitant. On the other hand, if this does turn out to be a fake, then I obviously did not buy what I thought I did (i.e. the item was "misrepresented"), and had I known beforehand, then I obviously would not have bought the item and had to pay shipping fees to have the item shipped to me and for me to ship it back.

Thanks in advance for all of your wonderful help! :) I'm just sorry I even have to ask in the first place ... :P[/QUOTE]

You're completely within your rights to insist on a full refund of all shipping charges INCLUDING shipping back to the seller if she wants that fake returned. She violated US law and Ebay rules by selling a counterfeit. If she refuses, file a SNAD claim with Ebay for the entire amount and explain that the bag is fake, the creed has spelling, grammar and punctuation mistakes and not only shows a known fake serial number but claims to be made in Korea where Coach has NEVER made bags. Be sure to save that creed photo on your computer.

This should help you understand why we always insist on seeing a photo of the creed patch and don't recommend that anyone bid on any auction that doesn't include one.

And please check the updated Fake Serial Numbers lists, all 3 posts, before bidding on or buying any more Coaches.

Grrr. Obviously, your seller didn't make an "honest" mistake as she's telling a blatant lie in referring to the "Coach outlet" from which she purchased.

Did you tell her you expect a FULL refund of your initial shipping and if she wants it back, make it clear that it's illegal to sell and tell her you want her to pay the return shipping also. Explain that you'd have never purchased the item had you realized it was fake and that she didn't follow ebay policy (or the law) when she listed without authenticating.

Based on her response, you can judge the feedback you'll leave for seller zarzarg.

ETA: Check out the "designer inspired" bags that were in this listing. Yuck! I see fake LV and Chanel right off the bat:

I am the one wanting to know.
I am not sure of the type of bag this is. My aunt said it's a older bag.

I have a coach bag or look-alike i dunno, I'm thinking listing my aunt gave to me to list. not sure if it is real or not.
Someone said it wasn't because the lining had C's in it but I heard the older bags do have them.
Everything else as in stitching, color, hardware looks good to me! The leather is real also.

I mean everything I seen looks real but there is no "ykk" on the zipper but I saw that in another site it said "Beware: Many of the newer bags do not have YKK stamped on the outer zipper, but instead it will be found on the interior zipper. Always check all the zippers from every angle. Lack of the YKK stamp on any particular zipper does not always indicate the handbag is fake. Also, some fake bags will have the YKK stamped on the zippers. The YKK zipper stamp is just a rule of thumb, something to check for when doing a handbag inspection, it is not conclusive evidence on its own."

So I thought I'd ask for your help. I tried the purseforum site but it's kinda confusing me lol.

Here are a few pictures I took myself.

Your bag is fake and illegal to sell. Sorry.

Fake.

And YKK stamped on a zipper doesn't mean a darned thing - obviously even fakes can have those. Don't ever use that to figure out if a Coach is real.

AND YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN NOT LIST IT AS A REPLICA !!! SELLING FAKES REGARDLESS OF HOW THEY'RE DESCRIBED IS AGAINST EBAY RULES AND AGAINST U.S. FEDERAL LAW. That fake can NOT be sold ANYWHERE in the US.

These are Ebay's Rules:

Ok I'm not trying to sell it at all. And if it's fake I am going to list as a replica.

I'm not selling it and it's not going on ebay at all. I do not do ebay. Why are you guys jumping down my throat? I asked for advise, I didn't ask to be treated like crap. Geez.
Please do a bit of googling and learn about the counterfeit trade, where the money goes, what the money funds, what they do to little children who balk at the long hours they are required to work, etc.

Perhaps a bit of reading will give you some insight into why we're so passionate in the fight against fakes.

And understand that it's nothing against you personally. It's the illegal product you are trying to unload on someone.

If I'm giving it away and not selling it there is nothing against that. I am not saying its coach. I'm putting a black handbag. There is nothing at all against that. It's not going on ebay or any auction sight for that matter. I am giving it away for free.

thanks
