I have seen this bag faked. The one fake I saw had the made of manmade materials or something like that on it.

I won't comment on authenticity either. The fake one I saw was a pretty good fake until i read the creed.

This photo is not too good but it is a creed from an authentic one made in 1998:

I've been doing a bit more digging and found something that makes authenticity a bit shaky. The month and year code in that bag indicate that it was made in September of 1996, but going through my old Coach catalogs the first listing for that style number 9065 Legacy Mail Bag is in the late 1998 "1999 Preview" catalog, and that style is listed as "New". So the actual release date in the catalog is 2 years after the date shown in the bag.

It's remotely possible that Coach may have originally made this style in late 1996 and then held back the official release for 2 more years but there's no way to confirm that although that may have happened with one other different style bag during the same time period. So I can't verify that it's genuine or fake, just that it's questionable.

Thanks so much for the info! This has been most helpful. I'm glad I asked for help before listing. I must say, with fake designer mens suits the construction and tagging are so poor that it's extremely easy to discriminate between real and pirated. It looks like with (at least some) fake handbags they've gotten pretty good at knocking them off. A shame.

Where should I post in order to double-check fakeness before reporting? Is that here?

This bag I want to report looks like a REALLY bad fake, but I took a break from Coach that ended after this bag had been out a while. I got 2 in store, but it wasn't in their debut time. Just trying to ENSURE I am right that these details are wrong, cheap and never made by the fabulous Coach.

Don't want to mis-step on the forums, either!!

This is the correct place to ask about authenticity.

Thank you Been Burned and Starrymaz. I feel the same way. Since the seller answered the question about the dimensions after I asked for the close up of the creed, I feel like this person doesn't want me to see the creed. I've asked twice now. I may be wrong, but it seems suspicious.

Thank you again, both of you, for your time!

I realized my own answer, but I also wish to ask others to report with me and am surprised there "is" ? no thread for that. So while I was curious about a "let's get 'im!" thread, I thought before I do any of this, I should make sure it's fake. I can go ahead and ask to ensure its horridness, but I still wonder...

Is this the thread to request we all "get 'im" or is there another thread for that, esp. if one is surer than I?

(Don't worry, after I thought of reporting, I wanted to double-check anyway, because getting taken down when innocent is a nightmare. I once had that happen to me and after that made SURE I didn't forget the creed pic, I thought accidentally not uploading the creed pic THAT ONCE is what did me in. And thanks to that, I can't list LV. Nightmare - now NO ONE posts the proper pics!!! And they sell better than my stuff. Hate the bay now!)

Here are the deets:

I am wondering if it just perhaps NOT Audrey like listed - I am not familiar-enough with Ashley but I thought they all had pleats, at least. This one looks cheap in other places, too. And the strap is not patent like the other leather??? I'm not sure if I'm being too critical.

The bag in the listing is Audry/Audrey as listed and I hope you didn't report because until there are other opinions stating that it's fake, although the picture quality isn't the best, I don't see any obvious problems with the bag in the listing.

It does appear that 2 of the hangtags are missing from the bag in the listing though.

There is a thread where KNOWN fakes can be posted but PLEASE NEVER post a listing there unless you are absolutely sure it's fake. If there's any question, please post here first: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-sh...er-coach-edition-430751-280.html#post18223490

I agree with BB. The Audrey in the listing looks fine. I'm not sure what you mean by "I thought they all had pleats" and "the strap is not patent like the other leather." The bag in the pictures does have pleats and does have a patent strap and looks like other Audreys I've seen. Maybe it's the seller's blurry pics that's throwing things off for you?

No I wouldn't do that. I didn't want to be confused, and am very tired, but tried to explain all that.

What I intended was to get more opinions and then ask about such a thread - but my brain is SO fatigued today that I got all mixed up and posted it wrong. I think I wasn't sure if this thread was just for consumers, or not, and came to realize it isn't, is that right?

After staring at it a lot I came to see it better and suspected it WAS real, but in beat up shape with a bad flash photo. It looks very mis-shapen and not "prettified" into its original shape for pics, but owning the style, I understand how that can happen...

I am just surprised that the pleats are almost totally "gone"-seeming. It took me a while to see that there are pleats there and once I saw them I took back my opinion.

I am more familar with the leather ones, and in leather, I can't see the pleats getting beaten so out of shape as to disappear, but I can't say it wouldn't happen to jacquard. *shrug*

... I hope it is not just my eye that misses its pleats, ha.

Got to say that without pleats, esp. with the top of the bag so high, it's a totally different-looking bag - I LOVE the pleats. I suppose they really helped sell Madison to me.

All too true, unfortunately. Anything with a designer or major brand name is widely faked, from handbags to golf clubs to shoes and clothing. Louis Vuitton has estimated that 90 percent of LV-labeled products listed on Ebay are counterfeit.

It seems that the really close fakes at least with Coach items are most common in the recent styles from the last 2 or 3 years, and surprisingly from the older classic all-leather bags. China seems to be the major source of the recent fakes (fakes account for at least 5 to 10 percent of their GNP) and the older all-leather fakes are probably from Mexico and Korea.

And if purses are bad, wallets are 10 times worse.
