can smbody tell me if its authentic or not? many thanks

Hi there, this purse was found at a garage sale about 2 years ago and I was wondering if anyone can tell me if I have the real thing in my hands? The stamp on the inside has a number it is No. G04Q-7054 and theres a circled N stamped as well...I have looked on their website, google and even called coach with no luck, I am guessing it's an older purse. I have done a bit of research and as far as I can tell it's the real thing but I am far from being an expert, so I'm hoping to sell it if it's authentic, please if anyone can tell me it would be greatly appreciated, thank you! *Sorry about the pictures my camera isnt the best

ANy luck with a better picture re-take on the last one of the creed?

If it's a N with a circle then it was sold at Nordstrom or Nordie's Rack most likely.

If you have a "flower" symbol on your camera, use that to take a picture of the creed and it might come out easier to see.

Here you go! Hopefully those will help, thanks!

It's one of the Signature Stripe Carryalls from 2004, I'm not sure which size it was. It's authentic, and as Bunny said, was sold by Nordstroms Rack.

"Don't post after midnight" is one of those chiseled-in-stone rules like "never bid when drinking" and should never be broken. Some of us, especially me, also need to add "never post until you've had at least 2 cups of coffee or strong caffeinated tea".

As for zippers, obviously cheap zippers are a red flag. Coach has used zippers from at least 5 different manufacturers over the years so it's more important to know what kind of zipper a specific style is supposed to have. Coach has also used nylon zippers on some of their bags.

There's no valid "rule" that says a Coach has to have even stitching. Some of their website pics have even had uneven or slightly wobbly stitching. People who insist that all Coaches are perfect and all Coach stitching is arrow-straight have NO idea what they're talking about. Any other advice they give will probably be just as useless.

The "no Signature pattern on both inside and outside" rule also has exceptions. Almost all bags including Patchworks follow it, but several styles or style families that have small to medium patches of C fabric on the outside also have C or Logo (lozenge) lining. Two examples are posted below.

I'll be chiseling the "no posting before at least 2 cups of caffeine" right under "no posting after midnight"! And OMG! It would never occur to me to bid while drinking - that would be soooooooooooooooooooo bad! :roflmfao: And I am starting to understand that there is only one rule here - THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR EXPERIENCE! I'll bet that there are times when you experts just "know because you know". Because you've seen thousands and thousands of the real deal and the same (or more) fakes.

I hope no one minds my constant questioning and forgives my extreme newbie questions! I really appreciate the education I'm receiving! :cloud9:

Originally Posted by BeenBurned I'm glad the seller fully refunded you (including shipping) because if the bag was fake, you shouldn't be out any money due to a seller who knowingly or not sold a fake.

In the case you refer to, though, for 2 reasons, it would be helpful to see the listing for the item you bought.

Reason 1: There are even exceptions to the centered and matched C pattern

Reason 2: We like to verify whether the seller is dishonest enough to relist the bag, perhaps without "Coach" in the listing or with an authenticity disclaimer.

This is precisely why we like to see pictures of the actual bag and why it's impossible to authenticate based on your description and/or a serial number.

The bag in the listing looks fine, albeit filthy. The pattern is called "optic" and due to the nature of the pattern, it doesn't have a pattern match or centering. (It's one of the infamous exceptions to the rules.)

If you think you can get it clean and usable, you got a good deal for $15. It might even be worth taking a chance on tossing it in the washing machine on the gentle cycle.

Edited to add: Note to self: Read ahead to see whether Hyacinth already posted the same response before posting.

I was shocked when I saw a member say they threw their bag in the washer! I just assumed it would ruin the leather. So far, my little rescue project is going very, very well - much better than I thought it would be. It's taken just a little time and a lot of TLC (and drying time), but I think I could get passable (for summer, when I'm in and out of the car 20 times during Saturday errands and toss the bag around like a sack of potatoes (with the kitchen sink inside!). But, hubby had a better idea! We gave our daughter a little surprise gift when she earned her Bachelor's degree a couple of months back - a Sig tote with matching wristlet from a recent Factory visit. My 8 year old grand-daughter grabbed the wristlet and said "Grandma, the big one is Mommy's and the little one is mine, right?" :lolots: :roflmfao: Needless to say, Mom got rid of *that* little notion immediately! Hubby said we should give this new "not so perfect" one to the "fashionista in training" - what better time and what better way to teach her how to care for her things? Plus, we get the bonus of :amazed:  look on Mom's face! :lolots:

Some authentic bags have nylon zippers too.

There are some exceptions to the signature inside/outside rule to.

I believe most if not all are patchwork bags.

SInce the seller did include pictures that clearly showed the condition and was willing to accept a return and fully refund your purchase price and shipping in both directions, she certainly doesn't deserve a neg.

In this case, I don't even know that I'd leave neutral feedback. Although she should get positive feedback, I think NO FEEDBACK is the way to go.

In addition to the style that Hyacinth posted as examples of the exceptions to the siggy rule, here's another, style 7048.

And here I am back to "you know because you know", you can just *tell* the difference between a quality nylon zipper and one that looks like it's going to break if breathe on it the wrong way.

Thanks for the advice on feedback - I didn't want to encourage the SNAD behavior, but I wasn't stuck with it, either. I'll just not leave any feedback.

It looks fine. The bag is from 2004 and sadly, most Coach employees aren't familiar with bags that aren't current.

As the the "N", that's a mark that Nordstrom's puts on its bags to indicate where the bag was purchased.

Item: Coach Silk Striped Handbag Leather Trim W/Dust Bag EUC

Comments: I entered a modest bid on this item with only 25 seconds left in the auction and I was surprised (and pleased!) to win it at such a great price! I know that you cannot judge authenticity on a single, small picture (I will post more pics when I receive it) but before I go any further I wanted to know if you see any obvious red flags?

If the bag looks pretty okay to you, do you know anything about it? When it was released, original price, name? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hopefully someone will have more information but it looks like it would be from the Legacy Stripe line if it's genuine, probably late 2007 thru 2008? Like you said, we really need to see better photos, so please post some when you get it. There don't seem to be any red flags but I'm not familiar with that line. The dustbag, if it's original to the bag, could mean it was sold as a Special or Limited Edition.

Just guesses on my part though, we really need more opinions. The hangtag has me a little worried, but hangtags by themselves can be changed and don't mean a lot.

Thanks Hyacinth! I have been searching ebay for similar bags and I have found 2 listings that look a lot like my bag and have better pics (see links below). One of the descriptions calls it a madison 10465 and says that it was a limited edition for the 65th anniversary (2006?)

These bags are NWT and NWOT but they are a lot more expensive than my EUC bag - so I really hope that mine is authentic; but at least I don't risk losing much money!

You're right, I should have gone back just a bit further. There's no doubt at all that the one in the second link is genuine and the information in that listing is correct. That one's from late 2006 when Coach kicked off their 65th Anniversary and brought out the first of the Legacy Stripe pieces. This one's a Madison Legacy Stripe or maybe just a Madison Stripe Bag.

The one you bid on looks ok but please post pics anyway. And I'm glad to see that the hangtags in the other 2 listings look the same as the one you bought.
