If a seller says they will give you a the original receipt for proof of authenticity or some even also say a gift receipt, does that really mean anything? Is that a seller that you can buy from or still need to check all the details for the bag? They could give you a real receipt but yet the bag could still be fake right?
Exactly! That's why you need to see pictures of the actual bag.

Sorry, I did not see that they did not load. I have resized them and now they should be there.

I purchased what to me looks to be an Authentic Coach purse. I think it is a Coach Chelsey withe blue pebbled leather- Z4703. The label inside really says K0993-Z14703. Coach said it was not authentic but I still question it. Here is why the lettering is symetrical. The letters are cut in the middle for the seams. The seams match up the letters perfectly. Coach said I should mail them the purse and they would take 4 weeks to determine if it is authentic.

Does anyone know the answer for sure? I don't want to send it to Coach.

MaryRose, I'm confused about something - you said "The letters are cut in the middle for the seams. The seams match up the letters perfectly." Which letters are you talking about? Neither the leather or lining have any letters.

There are several identical ones for sale on Ebay and none of them have any letters on the inside or outside either.

Are we talking about 2 different bags?

Comments: I do like the older ones :)

I don't think it's actually a Sonoma, at least I've never seen it included in the line. There were a few different smaller lines that Coach made right about the time the Sonomas were phased out that used that striped lining and the Sonoma-style strap hardware and zipper pulls but I've never found names for them. One of the posters here has a different style (4310) from that line but with the same details and I'm sure both yours and hers are real but have no idea what they were called. They both seem to have the same non-Sonoma creed statement too. So far we've found style numbers of 4310 and 4316 for those, and they also did some early Ergos in Nubuc leather but with the striped lining with numbers 4394, 96 and 98. Again, not actual Sonomas, just relatives.

Coach also did a similar "Sonoma-clone" line with nickle hardware called Hudsons at the same time.

That certainly is interesting, Hyacinth. I read the Coach Sonoma article guide on eBay and used the wayback link, just couldn't find it. But looking at her pictures it sure looked like a Coach, that's why I took a chance and bought it.

Thank you again, Hyacinth. :yahoo:

You're welcome!

If you mean GigiTrading's Sonoma guide, it's excellent. If she doesn't include the 43xx style numbers in the Sonoma list, then they weren't part of the line. I haven't seen them listed in the catalogs from that time period either (1997-98) but I only have one or two catalogs from each year.

The bag looks fine. Stitching isn't always neat and straight everywhere on a bag, especially on hangtags. Because of the way the hangtag is shaped, the stitching may not be completely straight. Also, as Hyacinth mentioned, hangtags are removable and can be replaced. We've seen fake bags with real hangtags and real bags with fake hangtags, so hangtags really shouldn't be relied on to determine authenticity of the bag.

I actually don't see a problem with the hangtag on this bag. The stitching looks fine. It doesn't look "sloppy" to me.

Thanks Starrymaz, BeenBurned and Hyacinth for your advice. I really like the bag and will keep it. Maybe I was finding fault because the seller charged me over 3 times the postage cost of what was stamped on the package, lol.

Yes, you still need to check. Fake receipts can be bought online if you know where to look, and a gift receipt even if genuine doesn't prove that the bag you're actually getting is real since it could be from a genuine bag in the same style as the fake the seller is sending you, or from a completely different item.

Nothing including stitching, price tags, receipts, correct serial numbers, zippers, hangtags, or Coach's name stamped all over the hardware can ever prove a bag is genuine except for the details of the bag itself. Buying from a well-known and trusted seller helps a lot but even the experts can make mistakes unless they buy their inventory exclusively from Coach stores.

Thanks for the advice.

Thanks BeenBurned. I found a local seller that is selling the Black Patent zoe bag and will be meeting the person to see the bag. Is it better to get it from a local seller or off from ebay? I wouldn't know what to look for to be authentic although the person said she has the proof of receipt. Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

You're welcome.

I don't blame you for being bothered for overpaying 3 times the shipping cost!

Generally, it's better to buy locally where you can see what you're getting before handing over your money but that's assuming that you'd know what to look for. If you don't know the details to look for, you're probably better off buying from ebay and having any listings looked at before buying.
