Item: Coach Scribble Purse (maybe, seller just lists as Coach Purse)

Comments: I purchased this on ebay and I noticed that where the seems are on the corners the C's don't line up, although in the middle there is symmetry. I was just curious if anyone can authenticate this?

Seller claims to have bought it in a Coach store last year.
Some versions of this bag do not have the centered pattern but the picture in the listing isn't enough to authenticate it.

Did you receive the bag yet? Please post pics of the lining and the creed.

Let me clarify what whateve has said, lest it not be interpreted to imply that the seller sells fakes.

baystateoutfitters sells authentic and as quite a few other sellers of authentic items, they have an agreement with various major department stores in which they agree to buy their "lots" of returned, discontinued, damaged, shopworn and otherwise unsellable items.

They clearly photograph, describe and rate the items and there is nothing illegal in what they do.

Yes, some damage is extensive but again, it's described, and disclosed via photographs.

As with all listings, buyers need to read the descriptions and look at the pictures so they know what they're getting.

Yes, I never meant to imply that anything they were doing was fraudulent. I was actually trying to describe that they only sell returned items, which in most cases are damaged. And their descriptions are very accurate, with photos that have arrows pointing to each flaw. I just wanted to emphasize that you read the complete description, because several times I have almost made the mistake of bidding on their items before I have read the entire description, because the item condition will often be "new with tags" even when there is extensive damage.

I bought the following bag at a yard sale over the weekend for $2. The woman that sold it to me said that it belonged to her grandmother who had passed and she did not know anything about it (where/when she got it). I took it to the closest Coach store today and the girls there looked at it and said that they are not authorized to authenticate any merchandise. They did clean it for me and commented on how soft it was. One of them directed me here and said that you ladies might be able to tell me if it is real or not and what style it is. She was even nice enough to tell me exactly what photos were needed. The number on the tag is H1S-7786.

Thank you!!:D

I am amazed that the people at your Coach store cleaned it for you! Most Coach stores don't provide that service.

Comments: I already purchased this and I wanted to be sure it was authentic and you ladies are awesome. I'm trying to learn but it's really hard. I don't understand about some of the signature stuff, for instance are the C's ever broken by a seam? I understand symmetry. Lot of pictures with this one. Thanks a million, you guys rock! How do I learn?

Comments: I did something dumb. I purchased this on ebay and used it a couple of times, and I decided to resell it because I found something I liked better. I know nothing about this bag but the buyer says that it is fake. I offered a full refund and asked her to return it. She has now decided to take it to the coach store because she is unsure. Personally I think it is real because of the quality of leather. I has a nice feel to it, and the C's have symmetry, the hangtag looks good. Any thoughts?

Your buyer's correct, it's counterfeit.

The Cs aren't centered correctly on the front of the bag. There are other problems with the hardware and leather but that's the most obvious.

By symetrical, that means that most standard Signature C pattern bags should have right and left sides that are mirror images of each other - if you draw an imaginary line or follow an actual seam down the center of the front or back of the bag, the two halves should mirror each other. There are exceptions, and there are other C patterns that don't follow that arrangement at all.

Here's what that style should look like according to Coach's website:

If you need or want a second opinion, you'll get it. Unfortunately, it's not even a good fake.

How long ago did you buy it on ebay? If it's been less than 45 days, you can file a dispute because fakes are illegal and it's the seller's responsibility to authenticate items before listing.

Clearly your seller didn't do that and neither did you.

I hope you'll give your buyer a full refund, including any shipping costs she paid. And if she needs to return the bag to you so you can go after your seller, you should offer to pay the return shipping too.

My recommendation to sellers is that if you are reselling an item that you didn't personally purchase from a legitimate retailer, it's a good idea to have it authenticated before listing as it's your reputation and your ebay account that you put at risk.

I am just learning how to authenticate, and I don't even know if this process is considered authenticated. I tried to maneuver the coach website, but I couldn't. How did you find the style number? If it were a legit Coach would the bottom corners of the leather and the straps and trim all match? Is that a dead giveaway?

How did you find the information on Coach's website? I've heard there's a dial down but it never works when I use the link.
