Hi Ladies,

I am selling one of my Coach bags on a site like Kijiji, but I have lost my receipt for it. It is still brand new with tags attached. I have someone interested, but she seems very suspicious about it. I told her I had no problem going with her to the Coach store here with the bag and I took up close photos of the bag and the serial number. I figured I could post here and direct her here to a few responses after you ladies take a look. Thank you!

I have a general question. Is the 1st Letter after the No. in the creed the plant code ? My bags all have different ones. One of them is A, just like this listing here:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/COACH-MAGENTA-OR..._WH_Handbags&hash=item3cb569c00d#ht_500wt_715

Just curious about the letter thing. My other bags have K and I think M ?

The FIRST letter (after No.) is the Month. So the bag your posted was made in January - 2010 in Plant number "73".

You need to read Hyacinth's information.

serial # 4010-820

This thread is for authenticating, there's a different one at the main Coach forum for just identifying.
http://forum.purseblog.com/coach/id-coach-item-post-any-coach-item-name-355205-209.html

And at either thread we really need to see more pictures of the bag including front, back, inside including the creed stamp, and the measurements of the bag. Thanks!

It would also help to see any metal zipper pulls or metal hardware on the strap.

But if 4010-820 is the serial number stamped inside the bag, you need to have it authenticated right here first. If it's genuine, we can also identify it.

Wow Thanks ! I did not know that existed.

And Hyacinth, the knowledge you possess about these things are amazing. Just had to add that. :smile1: Between you and BeenBurned, I feel pretty safe about an otherwise unsafe buying site (eBay).

The bag appears to be fine.

But going to a Coach store for "proof of authenticity" of a bag you're selling is not a good idea.

If you hang around tPF a while and read posts, you'll see way more posts than you'd like in which Coach employees have even mistakenly or knowingly deemed authentic purses as fake. This is especially true when they (Coach) know the bag was obtained in an online purchase.

I appreciate your kind words.

I agree with BB both about the authenticity of the bag and about going to a Coach store to "prove authenticity." Coach employees are not authorized to authenticate in store. And unfortunately, we've seen cases where misinformed Coach employees have called an authentic item fake.

The bag in your pictures is authentic. If your buyer has any questions, you can direct her here.

Hello ladies,
I am new here, and want to thank you for sharing all your knowledge. I've learned a lot!
As I said I am a new collector, and a friend gave me a purse. I've been reading all the information listed and am coming to the conclusion that it's a fake. The creed patch says "This is a Coach bag.It was handcrafted from the finest of materials. It's superior craftsmanship and attention to detail, reflect our commitment to enduring quality."
There's no mention of where it was made, i.e. China, United States etc. And the script is different than what I've seen. This is loopy and has that handwritten look to it.
I've looked on ebay, typed in the serial # 40949, and the Tattersal line comes up, but....I don't know...it just doesn't seem RIGHT. Thanks again for your time.
