It also has the leather on the kisslock. Did they make that bag in that color or has it been dyed? What color is under the interior pocket?

Beautiful! Watermelon Tote! Made in NYC with the "glued in" serial number! Probably late 70's - early 80's...but that's a guess on my part.

Is that fabulous purple color I'm seeing accurate? I love it.

Beautiful!

:D

I'm dying for a red bag. I have been on the hunt for a very long time. Do the older lighter coloured bags get colour transfer from clothes easily??
I found another red bag on ebay that I am watching too (I think it's a saddle bag) but not bidding on yet because it has a bit longer to go so if these don't work out I will post that one for authentication too. It's missing the hang tag though :(

I've never had a bag transfer colors onto my clothes but a bag that's been re-dyed might, especially if it gets wet. It's more likely to get dye from your clothes (denim in particular) onto your bags. Never carry a light-colored bag with a denim jacket or jeans, even if they've been washed a hundred times.

My records don't go back to the NYC bags but in the early 90s Coach would do a run of purple bags about every 5 years or so, probably less often in the 70s and early to mid 80s. I've seen a really early NYC bag with a creed but no serial number that was a plummy wine shade. Purples photograph funny too so the Watermelon may have a little more red in it than the photos show. But DemRam has probably seen a lot more nthan I have.

oops that's what I had meant. Would say black from clothes transfer onto a vintage red bag? I have read here about colour transfer but they were all on newer bags so I wanted to know ahead of time if it would happen so I could dress accordingly to keep my bags in good shape

also could someone look at this bag? I can't tell if it's real or fake?
The turn lock doesn't look right but it may be newer the reason I haven't seen one that looks like that before? I really only scope out vintage. The creed looks funny to me too but again could be because it's fabric and not pressed into the leather?

My files are sadly lacking as far as the "Madison" line, but I think 4403 is the Madison Royalton.

They really are beautiful bags, made in Italy, and one of Coach's classier and more expensive lines.

Wait for others (Hyacinth) to confirm.

"Plummy wine" described the color of my tote quite well! :smile1:

ok thanks :) I will wait for her to comment. I just noticed in the close up that it's more pebbled leather like. Is that why the wording in the creed is the way it is?

another one to have you ladies look at

It says there is a strap missing so did this have a cross body strap? If there was one would I be able to get a replacement from coach? Also would anyone know the cost of getting a replacement strap if it's possible to get red ones from coach?

That is a Bonnie's Legacy Satchel or something along that line from 2000.

I would think Coach would no longer have a strap for that bag. You can try calling them.

They do have a sort of a pebbled look but with a sheen to it.

The Madison line has some sort of treatment to the leather that makes it SO easy to care for. You simply wipe them with a damp cloth and you NEVER want to use any cleaning/moisturizing products on them like you would on a regular cowhide bag.

Lovely bag.

I haven't heard of black transferring but you should probably search the Coach forum for discussions on "color transfer".

That bag is a Royalton Bag from the Madison line from the mid 1990s and is completely genuine. The creed is leather and the turnlocks were unique to the Madisons.

Thank it was hard to see in the pics if it had anything for a longer strap. I will contact coach and see if they would have a replacement. I don't want to buy it if I can't get a strap to go over the shoulder.
