I'm hoping Hyacinth chimes in but according to what I read in the "Questions About Authenticity" thread, the second number in the creed represents the year of manufacture. The creed number in my Watermelon Tote is 141-3101, so I am guessing it was made in 1984 since the other thread said they didn't start using serial numbers until the mid-70s so it doesn't seem possible it could be 1974.

PLEASE re-read Hyacinth's information. You are not comparing the information correctly.

There are "serial numbers" and there are "style numbers". Any of the Pre-Style numbers, (any bag made by Coach BEFORE 1994) have random serial numbers and they are impossible to "date".

The number "4" in your bag's serial number means nothing at all as far as a date when the bag was made.

It could have been made in 1977 or 1982 or 1985...etc. It's just impossible to tell.

Okay, thank you. It doesn't look like Hyacinth or any of the other experts are interested in responding so I guess I'll never know! :smile1: I love the bag and know I will enjoy it.

DemRam is one of the classic older Coach experts. And she has a wealth of knowledge to offer. You're getting good accurate advice from her!

Note that unless another opinion is requested by an authenticator or unless we cross-post, we don't always post to concur when accurate info is posted.

thanks Hyacinth! I wasn't sure because I have a station bag that was made in Turkey and the creed is perfectly spaced. Figured safer to double check :)

I bought a tiny coach wallet for my small bags so I should be ok size wise for the red bag. I love the colour combo on the red bag.

I do too, in fact my very first Coach was a City Bag Spectator in the same combination. I heard it calling to me as I was walking through Marshall Field's. There's something so irresistable about a red Coach! :tender:

Comments: Hi, I'm brand new here. This is my first post. I'm obsessed with this hobo and since this style has been redesigned, my only option to buy is through ebay, but am worried about authenticity. Does this look ok? The seller has a good history but I'm worried because s/he does not accept returns.

Hi I'm brand new to PurseForum. This is my first post.
Welcome to tPF.

The bag in the listing is authentic.

While I understand your concern about sellers not taking returns, I can explain the reason they say it.

Though many sellers consider selling on ebay to be a business, others do it more as a hobby and would prefer not to be treated like Macy's or Nordies. Accepting returns is time consuming, expensive and would force sellers to raise their prices to cover the additional time and expenses.

Generally many sellers advertise "no returns" to avoid hassles. When the seller makes a mistake in her listing, most good sellers are willing to accept a return due to their mistake.

And even when the return isn't the result of seller error, many sellers don't want an unhappy customer and will allow a return as long as the buyer is honest about the reason for return, item is in its original condition, returned in a timely manner and shipping is paid by the buyer.

If you are concerned about it, you can pose a question to the seller offering to cover shipping in both directions should the item not work for you.

There's no need for me to verify anything DemRam posts. She's extremely knowledgeable about vintage Coaches. The regular experts who post here usually don't need their opinions confirmed by other posters, but if they're the slightest bit unsure they'll ask for more opinions.

If you read my serial number information again you'll see that the year code ONLY applies to bags from 1994 or newer. Before that as DemRam said the serial number was random and unique to each bag and the numbers meant nothing and weren't even assigned in any sequence I know of. SERIAL numbers are the entire 2-part series of digits after the "No". STYLE numbers are the digits following the dash or hyphen on bags from 1994 or later. Items made before 1994 also had style numbers that only appeared on price tags, Coach paperwork or in the catalogs.

As for "not being interested in responding" - none of us are here 24/7 nor do we want to be. We all have other responsibilities and check in here when we have time. This service is unpaid and on a voluntary basis, and a lot of former posters have found the demands on their time more than they were able to deal with.

Thank you for the info. I meant no offense-I was fine with the response I did get. I just value your opinion highly as well but I know this is a strictly voluntary thing.

I'm dying for a red bag. I have been on the hunt for a very long time. Do the older lighter coloured bags get colour transfer from clothes easily??
I found another red bag on ebay that I am watching too (I think it's a saddle bag) but not bidding on yet because it has a bit longer to go so if these don't work out I will post that one for authentication too. It's missing the hang tag though :(
