I have a problem that maybe you can give me some advice on. I did a dumb thing and purchased a bag because it was the right size and color, even though I was suspicious. Well... after reading your very helpful information, I am sure it is fake-- the number is NT-4115 and it says it was made in the US!

Item: COACH Signature, Pink, Handbag
Listing #:220560531237
Seller: ecomguy101

I contacted him with this message:

"Dear ecomguy101,
Hi. Even though I have not yet received this item...after doing some research about authentic versus fake Coach bags, and taking another look at the photos of this purse, it is obvious that it is fake. What would you like to do to resolve the issue?"

And he replied:

"I'm sorry but you are incorrect. It is authentic. It was purchased roughly 4 years ago from a coach retailer. The tag on the inside, inwhich pictures were provided, prooves the authenticity."

The bag has not arrived yet, so I haven't seen or held it in person, but from what I now know, it can't be real, right?. Should my next step be to report this to eBay?

Thanks
There is NO QUESTION that you are correct and the seller sold a fake bag.

Perhaps you can refer the seller to your post here. Addiitonally, you can direct him to the "authentication resources" thread where there's a list of invalid serial numbers.

Specifically, refer him to this post:

Just because a bag has a creed with serial number does not mean that it's authentic. Anything the designers can do, the counterfeiters can copy.

I'm not sure whether you can file a dispute before receiving the item. (Perhaps someone else will be able to respond to that.) In the meantime, make a copy of the listing, full description with pictures and keep all emails between you and your seller. Also, ONLY communicate through ebay messaging so all contact will be on record.

Tell the seller that you have confirmed the bag as counterfeit and either he can refund your full payment (including shipping) or you will file a dispute. And if the seller wants the fake bag back, tell him that he needs to pay return shipping too. You shouldn't be out anything with a fake.

#1 - seller uses on one picture and that's a stolen stock photo. That seller appears to have other listings that use her own pictures so why not take pictures of all your items?

OMGoodness, I love this forum. I just found it today and spent far, far too long on it!

Anyhow...I can add to the discusison about seller #1 above. I was interested in a different listing they had, for the op art chainlink small purse, but that listing also had a stock photo. I could have sworn that the listing said they had 3 available but, when I emailed asking for more detailed pictures, particularly of the creed, the seller wrote back and said they were sold out.

I am learning so much from this site...but am truly afraid to go back and look at the Coach bags I have already bought, in case they are fakes. It's discouraging to me that some of the fakes I have seen are from sellers that have 100+ positive feedbacks. Makes it more difficult to weed out.

Anyhow, thanks Coach experts! I'm sure you'll see more of me.

While I am asking for help, I may as well have you look at another bag for me. :)

The photos won't copy, and the picture of the creed is hard to read, but it looks like number D04J-7060 or 7000

Thanks so much, I really appreciate all your expertise!!!
The bag looks fine to me.

Although I don't have 7066 in my photo collection, the style number on the creed looks like it says 7066. I would have thought that bag was 9260.

Hi, I got a offer from this seller due to the winning bidder refused to pay her. But before I accept it I want to make sure it is authentic since I got ripped once. Can someone please help me? Thanks

item:Coach genuine leather baby pink shoulder bag

The bag in the pictures looks fine.

Edited to add: Do NOT buy from 189iris. The reason the winning bidder didn't pay is because the seller is shill bidding. The "winning bidder" is bidding only on (her own) auctions to inflate the prices.

This is the winning bidder's bidding history: http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAP...eName=PageBidderProfileViewBids_None_ViewLink

BeenBurned,
I really appreciate the advice. I sent the seller of the fake bag a message stating exactly what you said and this is what I got back:

"You're welcome to return the item to me and I will refund your purchase price, however you are responsible for shipping because it is authentic. It is up to you if you would like to dispute it, but it is real and bought at an authorized Coach retailer."

WOW!!

WOW!!
If that's the attitude, file a dispute. Why should a scammer make money when he broke the law and listed a fake.

And if, as he said, he bought the item at an "authorized Coach retailer," that's his problem to take the fake back to them and fight it out. He has no business visiting his problems on you.

If you file a dispute, you might not even be required to return the bag. Lately, paypal has been authorizing buyers of fakes to confirm destruction of the bag and on submission of a statement that you did that, they refund your full payment. (They do it this way because too often, when the scamming seller gets the fake back, they relist it and rip off a future buyer.)

Even if Paypal doesn't tell you to destroy the bag, you'll be requested to return the fake to the seller (use delivery confirmation as proof of return) and on submission of proof of receipt of the fake, Paypal will refund your initial full payment, including shipping. Only return shipping and d.c. will be at your expense.

Now, save the listing, neg the seller (before the listing poofs) and file your dispute. It's important that the seller get negative feedback since he's unwilling to acknowledge that he sold a fake and is also unwilling to do the right thing by refunding your full payment.

As proof of un-authenticity, state that the serial number is a well-known and commonly seen fake serial number. You might even include the link above that lists the fake numbers.
