Hi BeenBurned! Thanks for your answer earlier. Since no one else has responded to my post, would you please explain how you know the serial number is invalid? This is a purse that I recently bought on ebay, it was one of two in the auction (however, these are my pictures). I know the other one is authentic, but I believe this one is fake - I would really appreciate some backing opinions/reasons for this purse so that I can contact the seller about it without seeming like I'm trying to be manipulative. I've never gotten myself in this situation before, so I don't know what to expect from them in response. The seller never responded to my other messages (I wanted to buy insurance), so I want to keep it simple and support my opinion so that there's no need for back and forth (in case they do answer!). I really appreciate your help, and any information you--or anyone else--can give me as to why it is (or isn't) fake!

In addition to the fact that it's a known fake number that's appeared on at least a dozen proveably fake bags - and at a time when each serial number Coach used was unique and would only ever have appeared on ONE single bag - there are a lot of small details in the construction of your bag that are wrong. I'm not going to go into detail, the fake number is proof enough, but let's just say that most of the hardware on your bag was never used by Coach and even the creed stamping is "off". You can refer your seller to the Fakes Numbers list here or to Daria's list at the Ebay Shoes & Purses forum.

And please tell your seller that she can log in to the Shoes & Purses forum at Ebay and ask the experts there to tell her if the purse she sold is real or counterfeit. Any Ebay member is always welcome to ask questions about authenticity:

The current Fake Numbers list is at the Answers to Authenticity Questions thread here at tPF along with a lot of other information that you should read.

If you go back to around page 18, that's where I started consolidating a lot of the information I've put together over the years to make it easier to find. Your bag's serial number also appears on the original list and has been a known fake number for quite a while.

Ugh! All of the Coach items this seller has sold are fake, including a fake Zoe, fake Sabrinas, and the fake Carly. The Carly is fake for the reasons you described, the stitching on the hangtag is the wrong color, and the dust bag is fake too.

I bought a XL zoe black leather 12669 from a different seller. It came with the same satin brown dustbag, with the retail tag attached, coach box and tissue. It also came with a gift receipt from an outlet store. Is this dustbag always fake, could my bag be fake? Can you describe what makes her zoe fake?

Green and White Coach Bag and now I am pretty sure it is not real. The No. inside is DEJ-9816. Any suggestions on how to approach seller that I purchased a fake bag and want to return it for refund?

You're correct that it's fake. The serial number is a known fake number.

Please post the original listing with the seller's ID so we can look at her other items.

As for approaching the seller, email her, tell her that whether she knows it or not, she sold you a fake and you want a full refund, including shipping. You shouldn't be out any money for a fake.

And if you don't get a response, she refuses to refund, or only offers a partial refund, file a dispute.

It's fake. Please post the auction number and how you paid for it - hopefully by Paypal funded by a credit card, which is always the safest. Please use the format given in Post #1 of this thread to ask for authentication.

You can always refer the seller to the fake serial numbers list at the top of Ebay's Shoes & Purses forum. The serial # in your bag is invalid and would never have been used by Coach, and I'm sure the style number of whatever bag yours is a copy of isn't the same as style number 9816 either. Any bag with a fake serial number is obviously fake, and you can also refer Paypal to that forum and list if you have to file a claim.

Style # 9816 is an all-leather Legacy Slim Duffle from the late 90's and early 2000s and will always look like this:

The newer Coach dust bags are dark brown satin with cream colored lettering and drawstrings and there are also white satin dust bags with dark lettering and drawstrings. The reason I stated that the dust bag in the auction I was responding to was fake is because when you compare it to a real dark brown satin dust bag, there are differences. Look closely at the location of the Coach logo on your real dust bag compared to the fake one and look closely at how the material of the fake dust bag looks in the picture. (This is probably not as obvious to most people, but I've seen many real brown satin dust bags, and I'm familiar with the way they're supposed to look. I notice the subtle differences that the fakes have in pictures in terms of color, reflection, etc.) If you could see the Coach logo on the fake dust bag up close, you'd see there are differences in the font from a real one.

On the seller's Zoe, the stitching, fabric, and lining are off.

Item: Coach Large Brown Carly
Listing number:270445464912
Seller: smiledjaak789

Comments: Something bothers me about this Carly. The stitching is white on the leather trim and its supposed to be brown. Also, the coach hang tag looks strange too. Any opinions?

I've been reporting that seller's items since May 17.

Then I'm in good company. Now if only ebay would get with the program. :police:

Please ask for closer pictures of the design on the side of the arms, the print from the inside of the arms, and pics of the end of the arms.

I received more pics from the seller. Please LMK if authentic. Thanks!!

Thank you. Mine is real. I love being on this forum.

ALthough from what i can see, they look okay, sellers of sunglasses need to learn to use the macro (tulip) function to get good clear and legible pictures of the insides of BOTH arms. I'd like to see a clearer right arm and also, the left arm with the size info as well as a picture of the ends of the arms at the earpiece.

Ask the seller to try to get pictures using the macro function.

I am sorry, What is the rule and why is it the exception???

Here is the original post that is being referenced and which I'd answered with the response above:

Comments: I'm leaning towards real on this one but I wanted to be sure. TIA!

The "rule" (and there are exceptions) is that for the most part, if there's signature or print on the exterior, there won't be signature lining. The wave bags (styles 1439, 1441 and a couple of others) are among exceptions because although they have signature fabric both inside and outside, they are authentic.

That is awesome information, Thank You. I am sorry for the repeat on the info but I appreciate it..
