comments: SELLER WAS ADVISED THAT THIS BAG WAS FAKE AND HAS LISTED IT ANYWAY

The authenticity of this bag was discussed at the ID This Coach thread and although at least three Coach experts have advised the owner that the bag is fake, the seller has listed it on Ebay anyway.

Here is my comment, I strongly advice any potential bidders to read it. The opinions are my own. I usually don't cross-post but in this case a LARGE amount of money is involved.

a WARNING TO POTENTIAL BUYERS:

A poster here who asked for a Coach to be ID'd and was told by three experienced members that the bag was not only questionable but probably fake has ignored our advice and listed the bag for a very high price on Ebay with NO proof of authenticity and against our advice.

Once again, I'm telling seller " closetcompass " that we don't believe this bag is genuine. We've explained our reasons why in Posts # 655 THRU 664, and 675 THRU 677
This seller asked at the PurseForum for info about this bag several days ago and was told by myself & others that we didnt think it was genuine. Here's the posts from the ID This Coach thread, starting here:
http://forum.purseblog.com/coach/id-coach-item-post-any-coach-item-name-408306-44.html#post12074132
http://forum.purseblog.com/coach/id-coach-item-post-any-coach-item-name-408306-45.html

The seller has also posted a supposed comment in the listing which is implied to be from Coach but which was never mentioned during her posting and which is questionable at best. Also it's not up to the buyer to send the bag to Coach for authentication, it's up to the seller to prove authenticity.

The seller posted this in her auction:
"The legal department of Coach will authenticate this bag for a fee of $25 plus shipping and proof that you purchased this bag online."
"We contacted Coach and their policy is to not authenticate a bag that one is about to sell, but they will authenticate a bag that was just bought."
THAT IS COMPLETE NONSENSE. COACH DOES NOT AUTHENTICATE ANYTHING WITHOUT PHYSICALLY SEEING THE BAG, AND A SELLER CAN SEND A BAG TO THEM FOR OFFICiaL AUTHENTICATION BEFORE LISTING WHICH THIS SELLER SAID SHE WOULD DO AND OBVIOUSLY HASN'T. Coach has NOT authenticted this bag in any way and the comments that are implied to be from Coach are no such thing. In fact, Ebay REQUIRES that name-brand items like designer purses be proved authentic BEFORE listing and Coach has no objections to doing so AND providing a Letter of Authenticity for the seller to show in her listing.
Also Coach doesnt require any proof of where you bought a bag to authenticate it - more proof that the seller has NOT contacted anyone at Coach about authenticity.

I'm posting this because I personally STRONGLY believe this bag to be fake and the statements made in the listing contradict totally what the seller told us here in this forum. Statements that are implied to be from Coach DON'T conform to how we know they do business and handle authentications OR how they make bags for "special" employees. I'm also still waiting for Coach to ackowledge that they
1- falsified the country of origin as required by US Federal law
2- falsified the contents of the bag, again as required by law
3- failed to provide the "special" employee with a federal tax statement declaring the value of the "gift", again as required by federal law.

If the seller can prove she has written confirmation from Coach that the bag is genuine, along with the phone number of a member of Coach's Authentication Department who I can call and verify that the seller's statements are accurate, I'll withdraw my comments. Until then my statements stand and I strongly recommend that this listing be ignored.

BTW, I find it absolutely FASCINATING that when I clicked on one of the seller's photos to save it for posting in this thread, THE CATEGORY AND TITLE OF THE PHOTO STARTED WITH "GARAGE SALE".
HERE'S THE PHOTO URL:

Interesting title. Poor choice of words, maybe, but interesting.

There's a listing for a genuine Delphine bag here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/New-COACH-OSTRI...bags?hash=item230138ab94&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14

Just a heads up "Garage Sale" is listing software for the Mac. It's what I use too.... Not that it has an bearing on anything... lol

I believe that this same bag was discussed on the Ebay discussion boards, but they are down for maintenence so I can't find the thread right now.

Comments: Is there something wrong with the bottom left hand corner? Lighting or discoloration maybe?

Both look okay to me.

On the second one, I'm not familiar with the item but I wonder if it's patent leather and maybe the flash distorted the corner.

I'd definitely ASQ the seller because it's described as NWT and if that's a stain, it certainly wasn't mentioned.

I stand corrected on the "Garage Sale" - but it did give me a chuckle. And I don't think there was time to discuss it on Ebay before the forums went down. If she re-lists, I'm sure someone will bring it up, there are a few former Coach employees who still post there.

Think the seller will actually send the bag to Coach? Or maybe she found out that if they determined it was counterfeit, Coach would destroy it.

Sheesh - if I KNEW a bag someone was questioning was genuine and there was a way to verify authenticity in writing, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Especially if I was asking thirteen hundred bucks for the bag, AND even more so if I wasn't the original owner - or "giftee".

I think I just posted this on the wrong page!! But I need and answer asap. I can't find a reference to this purse any where and wanted to buy it for may younger granddaughter. Did COACH make a Tartin plaid?? please help here is the link and picture, IS IT REAL OR NOT
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120457618869&_trkparms=tab=Watching

Although we'd need to see better pictures to comment on authenticity, Coach did make a bag in that style and pattern.

In fact, if you do a search for "Coach plaid," you'll find 2 more of the same pouch.

It's fake. The serial number is an invalid one.

And so is the OP. Great detective work, guys! Thanks for the warning, Hyacinth. I couldn't have said it better myself.

Oops! By xxx-xxxx I mean the early format of the true serial number bags, not the 1994-2003 bags with the seven character date/factory code and style number.

Is there a range of true serial numbers that Coach used, so that we would know that anything outside of that range would be fake? Kind of like ordering numbered checks... if you start your sequence at #1000, you know that any check 999 and under is fake.
I'll leave the answer to that question to Hyacinth.
