Just a note on the dog one, the outlets are selling a keychain of a dog, so that has been done. :-)

Coach has made at least one real dog keychain that I know of, the Jack Russell Terrier one. I know I've seen Beagle keychains on Ebay too and I think those are real, someone can correct me if I'm wrong. But the keychains look just like the real dogs, not like several different geometric parts tacked together. And most of the time when they do any kinds of animal keychains or purse charms, they use leather instead of Mystery Metal, like with the bees, owls, larger butterflies, etc.

They also tend to avoid making keychains with a lot of large heavy metal charms on them. For one thing they weigh a TON and can easily damage the purse or pocket where you carry them, especially the ones with all sorts of pointy bits. Also, having too heavy of a keychain plus the keys on it hanging from your car's ignition can actually damage your ignition assembly to the point where the car won't even start and your ignition lock will have to be replaced. With every small movement of the car the key actually grinds against all those little metal tumblers inside the lock until they start to wear away.

ok... I just heard back from a couple of the ebay sellers referenced on page 229 in the listing of 6 questions. #110103301493 says they can't get a clearer picture of the cred, but the # is F3X-5187. Says sister bought it at a Coach store in NY and gave it to her. She doesn't carry it much because of the color. ???????? ok, u think?

#230106984471 just writes the creed # is NoJ04Q-9762 ??????? what do u think ?

I haven't heard back on the others.
thanks again for the help :)

For 230106984471 - this one may have been a bag made just for the outlets. There's a larger Patent Gallery Tote on Coach's cached pages with style number 9789, very close to this one. Other details like the hangtag and the Coach stamp on the front of the bag are the same as on this one. I'm leaning toward genuine but I'm not very familiar with the totes. Be sure to always pay with Paypal and a credit card so you're covered in case it turns out to be fake.

110103301493 also looks ok, at least there's nothing that says it's fake at first glance.

In trying to read a bit the past couple of days on authenticity of bags, I read elvis costello fan on ebay site. She talked about Kate Spade seeming to no longer have the same quality as in earlier years. Can anyone discuss the quality of vinatage vs. current workmanship w/ Coach?

Rita, I think anyone who's owned the older leather Coaches will tell you that the quality was better back then. The leather was a bit thicker but still very soft and flexible and held up beautifully. The US-made bags were the best, but the ones from Italy and Costa Rica also were very good. The leather on the newer bags feels stiffer and probably will never develop that "patina" that older Coaches develop with time.

The "attention to detail" on some of their fabric bags is slipping too. I've seen recently made bags where the C's are properly aligned on the front of the bag but not on the back. In the past you could always know a genuine bag would have those "mirror image" Cs on both sides and now they're changing that. They're starting to take shortcuts and that's not a good sign. Not only does it cheapen the product but it makes it harder to tell real from counterfeit.

hi,

does anyone know if this Coach item was ever made or is it fake?? I think it's really cute..thank you

It IS really cute, although the first picture is a stock photo from Coach's website. But the second photo looks ok and the font on the hangtag seems right and her other items look genuine, it looks like she gets most of them from the outlets. I'd say the one shown in the auction is real.

I got soooo excited and caught up in my questions when I came accross this site a couple of days ago, I just jumped in head first. I forgot my manners :shame: and didn't introduce myself. OOPS!
I'm pretty confused w/ some of this "computer literacy", because unless it's through this post, I can't even figure out where I'm supposed to say, "Hi everyone ... I'm new and excited to find you! I can't wait to hopefully absorb new information. I love looking at all the handbags!"

Coach experts, need your help with authentication! ;) Hope to be able to get a few opinions. Thanks!

^ I LOVE LV, the dark brown signature duffle wristlet looks good to me <~ I'm no expert though... But from what I DO know, it seems to be authentic. You may want to wait and see what other people respond to you...

... Hope I was of some help... Good Luck...

To the very best of my knowledge and that of several Coach experts, Coach has NEVER made Hello Kitty keychains, or dancing penguins or multicolored strawberries or dogs or 90 percent of the designs sold on Ebay.

Sanrio which owns the Hello Kitty trademark is perfectly capable of making their own keychains and they already make and sell thousands, maybe millions of them - why would they have Coach retail them and have to split the profits? If a company has a multi-million dollar property like Hello Kitty or Mickey Mouse, they don't need anyone else's name on items with that character, they already sell all they can produce. The Hello Kitty keychains on Ebay are cheap knockoffs from China or Malaysia. I've also seen Prada and Louis Vuitton fake Hello Kitty keychains.

Seamusmom, if you've bought a "Coach" Hello Kitty keychain, I hope you can get your money back.
Look, I made a mistake. If you read my post, it says that I have never bought a hello kitty keychain. I was told by an SA at the Edinburgh outlet that coach did make them in years past. I guess she was misinformed as well. I'm sorry.
