For further information, please refer to the first post on page 1 of this thread.

Please follow the following requests:
  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated by searching the seller ID and/or item number. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • Note that authenticators have the right to refuse any requests. This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:
  • FOR ITEMS LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Listing number:
    Seller and site where listed
    Link:
    Comments:

  • FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Where purchased or how obtained
    Comments:
BASIC PICTURES REQUIRED (but more may be requested): If necessary pictures are in the listing, it's not necessary to upload and duplicate them.
  • Front of item
  • Back of item
  • Full clear and legible creed text and serial number
  • Made in tags (when available)
  • Measurements
  • For bags with turnlock closures, show pictures of back of female side of turnlock
  • For bags with magnetic snaps, show pictures of the male part of the snap so that the numbers and letters on it can be read
  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.
Thank you and be safe!

Don't apologize. It's been discussed at length among authenticators across many brands.

Some refuse to state anything more than "authentic" or "fake" in their responses because (they believe that) giving details on why an item is fake only allows dishonest sellers to know what NOT to show in their listings. (See the comments above regarding seller belmodo. She used to show creeds but after having several listings removed because of creeds, she no longer shows them.)

That said, I'm not naive enough to believe that just stating what makes something fake will help the counterfeiters. In fact for some brands, they buy, disassemble and reconstruct an authentic item in order to learn how to improve their fakes.

A huge thanks to you, BeenBurned, and the other authenticators in this forum for all you do to help us as Coach consumers! We'd be lost without all of you!

Hi!

I have spent all day looking all over for information about whether my vintage dark blue coach purse is fake and theres so much info out there that contradicts each other so I'm glad to have found this place! I bought this vintage coach willis bag today at a thrift store ($30) a bit pricey for a vintage gamble I suppose, but it felt pretty good and looked to be quite good quality so I thought it was real.

However, upon coming home and reading up a bit more I read that the turnlock should be exposed in the pocket behind but its covered, so now Im really doubtful! I've taken detailed photos of every part, and hope someone here can help me please! Thank you so much!!

Some info about the pictures:
3rd photo: The uneven ends of the leather piping of the cover flap makes me uncomfortable as well. :\
4th photo: The Serial no reads No G0R - 9927
6th photo: This is what bothers me, i've read that the turn lock should be exposed in the back, the fact that is covered up leads me to believe its fake.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me, I can take additional photos if needed!

Some fakes are extremely well made but it doesn't make them any less fake.

The bag is fake and even if it were considerably less than $30, I'd advise you to march right back to the thrift store and demand a refund.

Although thrift stores claim not to "sell as authentic," the law makes it illegal to sell fakes - PERIOD.

Thank you so much for the quick reply!

Sigh... really disappointed, and doubt I can get a refund! :\ Its a huge local thrift store (like goodwill), what is the obvious sign? The serial no or the fact the turnlock is not exposed??

Appreciate the help!!

The most obvious problems I saw were with the serial number, the plant code (R), and the indentations on the back of the female part of the turnlock closure.

As for getting a refund, any "final sale" policy is out the window when they've sold a fake. They should have had it authenticated before putting it on the sales floor and if they were law-abiding, wouldn't have sold it if authenticity couldn't be proven.

Perhaps you can print out the posts from this authentication and maybe they'll do right by you. (It wouldn't surprise me that you'd probably find it back out on the floor for sale next week though.)

If you paid with a credit card, you can file a dispute with the counterfeit claim.

Thank you again for the quick info, so I dug out another of my vintage coach bags I bought from a goodwill, and I'm not so sure about! I think I will def be more wary buying coach bags from thrift stores from now on.

I believe the serial number on this one says "G6C 9870", again, thank you all so much for the invaluable help!

I believe that one is a genuine court bag from 1996.

Please request pictures showing the inside of the tag as well as the white label with the serial number from inside the bag, either sewn into a side seam or into a seam inside the zippered pocket.

I requested and this is the response I got: "The only tag that I could find inside read "Made in Vietnam" and was not able to take a picture because it was difficult to do with a camera."

Please kindly authenticate..

Comments: There is a lot of fake swagger bags out there, so I just want to have it authenticated before I bid on it.

Sometimes it's necessary to pull the lining out of the bag in order to get a good picture.

The other tag with the serial number is inside the zipper pocket and can be easy to miss.

WIthout it, I wouldn't recommend buying the bag because the swaggers are extremely well faked.

I started a thread after discovering how scary close the fakes were:
http://forum.purseblog.com/coach/warning-swaggers-912206.html

The wallet looks good but I just want to comment that some wallets (that style among them) are very well faked and buyers need to be very careful when buying them on the secondary market.

I also want to note that you showed the zipper brand, presumably because you've read a guide on the internet that states that "authentic Coaches use YKK zippers." Zipper brand has nothing to do with authenticity and the existence or lack of YKK tell you nothing about authenticity.
Thank you so much!

Please authenticate, thanks. Not a court bag.

1- It's almost impossible to read, but the bottom of the creed looks like it says Made in the United States. The description says it's made in Costa Rica but that phrase doesn't look as if it fits correctly on that bottom line. The seller also lists the number 0936 in the title, but it's been my experience that sellers usually list the LAST set of serial number digits, and a Logan Bag which is what this looks like and which was introduced around mid-1992 probably would have a serial number in the newer 4+3 format so it's unlikely that the last set of digits would be 4 numbers. The small details of the creed stamp itself also look like it's from a US plant, not a Costa Rica one.

It may be ok but I'm not comfortable authenticating it without a full creed and number photo. I know because of the tiny top opening it's almost impossible to get a decent creed photo and that may be the best the seller can do, but I'd like to at least know the FULL number and have them double-check the country of manufacture.

2- the Anderson Zip looks ok.
