Thank you and be safe!

It seems genuine, depending on a better photo of the creed once you get the bag. I haven't seen any fakes of the early styles with the glued-in numbers but if anyone else has, please let us know.

It's a Basic Bag, style 9455, from the late 70s or very early 80s.

Thank you, Hyacinth! As always, I really appreciate your help!

And yes, if anyone has seen fakes from/copying this era, please chime in!

It's so hard to resist red....

Thanks again! :)

I should know better than to post this here because I suspect there probably isn't enough information to authenticate the bag, however based on what is there, it might be possible.

This seller annoys me because for the quantity of Coach she sells, she should know enough to show creeds in her listings. However, knowing her history, I suspect she avoids creeds because they might disclose too much information! ;)

Title: Authentic Coach Lula Navy Blue Leather Drawstring Bucket Shoulder Bag
Bonanza:
Seller: Belmodo

Comments: Is it normal for different grommets to be used on each end of the strap? The top looks silver and the bottom is gold/brass. (ETA: I just realized that she's not showing both ends of the strap but rather, the front and back. The metal color still looks mixed to me.)

And I see "solid brass" on the buckle.

And previous history on belmodo (Bonanza) aka belmodo (Etsy) and belmodo (ebay) goes WAY back!

And in this post, Hyacinth confirmed what I suspected above. BELMODO doesn't show creeds because she knows they'll out her fakes as fake!

I suspect BELMODO reads here because I found that in Sept. 2011 when her fake J8Y bag was posted here and on another purse discussion board, she ended the listing for that one and another fake.

I bet this one is fake. There is no way a bag of this era would have "solid brass" stamped on the buckles. Other than that, I just see a few questionable details. The seam on the bottom piping is in an unusual place. The stitching around the drawstring ends looks off.

Thank you. I suspected as such.

I've never seen fakes with glued in numbers but I'm always reluctant to post something like that publicly because I don't want to give the fakers ideas.

Thanks, BeenBurned! I can only imagine that it's hard to balance between educating consumers and tipping off faker-makers. Sorry for putting anyone in that position! I appreciate that you took the time to respond.

Don't apologize. It's been discussed at length among authenticators across many brands.

Some refuse to state anything more than "authentic" or "fake" in their responses because (they believe that) giving details on why an item is fake only allows dishonest sellers to know what NOT to show in their listings. (See the comments above regarding seller belmodo. She used to show creeds but after having several listings removed because of creeds, she no longer shows them.)

That said, I'm not naive enough to believe that just stating what makes something fake will help the counterfeiters. In fact for some brands, they buy, disassemble and reconstruct an authentic item in order to learn how to improve their fakes.

I agree. Seller BELMODO seems to use the forums here to warn her about which parts of her bags it's not safe to show in photos and that don't raise questions about their authenticity. NOT the sort of seller I'd EVER spend my money with, but I'm sure s/he isn't losing any sleep over it.

And I agree about the buckle. Tetondeb and I discussed those buckles once and between her and Jed and what I've seen in my own and other members' collections here, I think we have the dates verified pretty accurately.

ETA - there's also at least one other red flag in her Etsy listing which would tell me it's fake even without the strap and the buckle. So, three strikes. Too bad she's not out.

Her Bonanza store has a "Canyon" brand leather bag that's a look-alike for a Duffle Sac except for the leather texture, and for some reason it's showing up when I specifically search her listings for "Coach". The company seems to be using a dead ringer for the classic leather Coach hangtag too, which I thought was a protected trademark.

The bag looks okay but the hangtag isn't the original that came with the bag.
Yes, the tag is a bit deeper brown and more shiny. It was bought from a big thrift store and I suspect they bought it in a lot from either a store that went out of business or some excess purse service. I find all kinds of bags at this store that have some small flaw, were store samples, that type of thing. This purse seems to be unused so maybe the tag was replaced at the original store.

12" Wide at widest point at top
9.5 tall
9.5" x 5" bottom
21.75" to top of straps

Here is another one on eBay:

Thanks very much! :smile1:

According to the serial number it was made in January of 1998.

Would you happen to have the measurements? It's a Tribeca style that's not in my records yet and I'd like to add it but measurements would be a big help if you have them available - centimeters is fine. Thanks!

Of course! I would find the one bag you don't have in your records, lol. Thanks for your help.
It's a Tribeca Shopper. The description without a picture is on the copy for the nubuc Tribeca Shopper (4393).
