For further information, please refer to the first post on page 1 of this thread.

Please follow the following requests:
  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated by searching the seller ID and/or item number. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • Note that authenticators have the right to refuse any requests. This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:

    Link:
    Comments:

  • FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Where purchased or how obtained
    Comments:
BASIC PICTURES REQUIRED (but more may be requested): If necessary pictures are in the listing, it's not necessary to upload and duplicate them.
  • Front of item
  • Back of item
  • Full clear and legible creed text and serial number

  • Measurements
  • For bags with turnlock closures, show pictures of back of female side of turnlock

  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.
Thank you and be safe!

The plant code is a problem, the month code is invalid and was never used by Coach, and the style number 4914 belongs to a completely different bag with pebbled, not smooth, leather. It's fake.

In the future, as long as you have a working link for the Ebay listing in your post, you don't have to post photos of the item from the listing. As long as the link is good, that's OK. If you've received the item and want to add your own photos, that's ok.

Comments: Although buying from listings like this is strongly discouraged, I figured the price was right to take a gamble on this being an authentic periwinkle Sonoma Small Full Flap before anyone else came to the same conclusion. Thank you for taking a look, experts.

Thanks so much as always! And thanks for the info regarding the pics!

Welcome to tPF! :smile1:

Both of them look genuine, and both were made in the time period between 1990 and 1993.
Thank you for your warm welcome, and thank you for your response! I did not end up winning, but I was wondering how you know the first one is from 1990-1993, or is that an estimate? The seller listed that she got the bag in the 1980's, so can that be believed? Also, I've noticed that some Court bags have an adjustable strap while others are at a fixed length. Does that have anything to do with authenticity or the time it was produced? I am still a newbie with very much to learn hehe. Thank you so much!

EXACTLY!

Ignoring the misspelling is bad enough, and not checking current and Completed listings on Ebay is inexcusable. But how does anyone who accepts money for services justify authenticating a "Coach" with a style number that apparently doesn't even exist on a genuine bag? Did they look at the listing's photos AT ALL????

And both Daria48 and I mention that serial number twice in our Guides and posts, including "-4154, -9956, -9941 - Any bag with a serial # from 1994 or newer ending in any of these needs to be looked at by the experts here, every one we've seen so far has been fake". How much more proof do you need? Jeez, the first 3 hits on Google for "Coach M4N 4154" lead to the Daria48 Guide and dozens of posts here at tPF - as well as that ripoff of Daria's guide by the FlyinRoach. How freakin' hard is it to check Google?

I really wish these "services" would just have the balls to tell anyone asking for Coach authentications "Sorry, we're not qualified to authenticate that brand". Because THEY'RE NOT.

UPDATE: SUCCESS! I contacted Carol Ives last night and sent her the link to the authenticate this thread and she quickly responded. She admitted that she made a mistake on the bag. She said she now has information that states that M$N-4154 is always invalid. She has written to the seller to let her know that the bag is invalid. She has known the seller for a long time and doesn't think she'll relist it but if I find out otherwise to please let her know. Hyacinth, I will send an email back to Carol with those links that you provided.

I tried to leave feedback yesterday but wasn't able to for 7 days because seller was a power seller. This morning I got an email from ebay saying that the listing was removed.

Thank you again to TPF for being an excellent resource.

Bags with a serial number in the format of xxxx-xxx, four digits followed by three, were all made in the early 90s as that is the only time they used that format. Before that, the format was xxx-xxxx. In 1994, the use of unique serial numbers was abandoned and the current system that includes letters was introduced.

More information is here: http://www.ebay.com/gds/Coach-Serial-Numbers-the-Basic-Facts-/10000000034886433/g.html

The style of court bags changed over the years including the change from a nonadjustable strap to an adjustable one. The older bags will have a fixed strap length.

I'm glad Carol admitted her mistake. She should tell her clients that she doesn't know enough about Coach to authenticate rather than attempting and failing.

Now that the listing has been removed, you won't ever be able to leave feedback. I don't believe the seller will be able to remove that ding from her account.
