Coach told me this was fake. Is it true?

Item: Backpack
Listing number: 236087567606
Seller and site where listed: eBay; McGigsChicago (me)

Comments: Coach said this was fake; description in listing. Zippers do not say YKK. See additional pic for male magnet part. Thank you!

Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2360875676...bblNu4rTkm&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Sorry for the delayed response.

1. No, Coach was wrong and they aren't dependable when it comes to authenticating.
2. YKK zippers don't prove authenticity and lack of YKK on zippers doesn't disprove authenticity
3. Not sure why they told you bags had to be made in Vietnam to be authentic, that's incorrect. (In fact, in 1996 when your backpack was made, Coach didn't have a Vietnam plant.) China is the correct country of origin for your bag.
4. Coach makes or has made bags in US, Mexico, Hungary, Italy, China, Vietnam, Myanmar, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Philippines, Turkey and there may be other countries I missed.
5. Everything about your bag is absolutely correct for when and where made, the style of the bag and all other details that determine authenticity.

That listing shows an authentic Coach backpack made in 1996.

EDIT: Please don't depend on Coach employees, many of whom weren't even born at the time some Coaches were made (!!!), to help with authenticating bags. They aren't trained for that and in truth, aren't even allowed to authenticate per company policy!
The bag is authentic. You should change your listing description because ebay won't allow you to list a bag described as a knockoff. It could be removed and your ebay account will be dinged.

Here is a Coach catalog picture of your backpack. You can see the style number is 520, which is shown in the creed of your bag as 0520. It makes you wonder why the Coach employee couldn't find it in his database.

@McGigs
Also, when you relist that beautiful backpack, you can sell it for a lot more than the $125/OBO that it was originally listed for!

It's a rather rare style which might be part of the reason you didn't find other examples of the same style.

Here's one listed on Etsy for $595!
and on ebay for $699.

Thanks! They certainly deserve a Hall of Shame award for how they packed the purse for shipping. I think they had a contest to see who could stuff it in the smallest box (6" square).
:(
I hate when sellers do that!

I had a buyer cancel an order one time because I refused to stuff a vintage bag into a bubble mailer. She said she wanted to save money on shipping but had left other sellers negative feedbacks that commented on exactly what she wanted me to do.

Wouldn't be surprised if she also tried (planned) to get partial refunds when those vintage bags arrived in less than perfect condition.

Hi, I’ve been given several vintage Coach bags by a friend I would appreciate help in both authenticating and identifying the style name of this one. It is about 11” high from the middle to the bottom, 13” wide across the top, and 3” deep. I see it was bought in an outlet and must be from the late 80s-early 90s. It has no outside pockets and the front and back look the same. I’m including photos here. Re: the photo of the leather tag- I’m 90% sure it’s the original tag that came with the bag but how could it have faded to be such a different color as the bag? The bag seems to be a dark navy. Thank you!

Lucy

You quoted a post of mine that wasn't authenticating this wallet. To be clear, in that post, I wasn't verifying the wallet you've asked about (yet).

Although some signature wallets from the early half of the 2000-2005 decade are closely faked, your wallet from Depop seller ellidala looks fine.
I realised I hadn’t thanked you for the previous authentication so just included it at the bottom of that request. It did make the post a little confusing, sorry 😅 Thank you for the two most recent authentications, too!

I had a seller ship a bag in an envelope and then blame the post office when the strap got permanently crimped. What is ridiculous is that she didn't save any postage by using the envelope. She could have shipped it in a flat rate box cheaper.

The bag is authentic, and you are correct about the dates. I don't see how that hangtag could have come with the bag. I don't think it would have faded to that color if it had matched the bag at one time. I think it is 4017 Light hobo from the lightweights collection.

This is another example of a seller from Japan who, had this been posted prior to purchase, I would have advised against it.

The pictures of the bag you received show a different bag than the one in the listing. The bag you received is fake.

Open a "not as described" return request and don't close the case until you receive your refund.

Hi, May someone help me authenticate this bag?

Item: Vintage Coach Crescent 9235
Listing number: 229120034

Comments: Is the color rust or British tan? Any opinions appreciated.
Is the color rust listed in any catalogs?

Thanks in advance!
It's authentic. I'm not sure it is orange enough to be rust. I think it is probably BT.

Rust is a mentioned color on 1970 and 1977 price sheets and I have seen it designated on a box. I haven't seen it in a catalog that I can remember.
