IMPORTANT READ-ME

Please post authenticity questions related to COACH in this thread. No PMs please.
For further information, please refer to the first post on page 1 of this thread.

Please follow the following requests:
  • Before you submit a request for authentication, please search this thread to make sure that the item has not previously been authenticated by searching the seller ID and/or item number. This is not a thread to ask general questions about COACH, please refer to our main Coach forum for such information.
  • Note that authenticators have the right to refuse any requests. This is a free service, but it is imperative that you help our authenticators by using the following format:
  • FOR ITEMS LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Listing number:
    Seller and site where listed
    Link:
    Comments:

  • FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:
    Item:
    Where purchased or how obtained
    Comments:
BASIC PICTURES REQUIRED (but more may be requested): If necessary pictures are in the listing, it's not necessary to upload and duplicate them.
  • Front of item
  • Back of item
  • Full clear and legible creed text and serial number
  • Made in tags (when available)
  • Measurements
  • For bags with turnlock closures, show pictures of back of female side of turnlock
  • For bags with magnetic snaps, show pictures of the male part of the snap so that the numbers and letters on it can be read
  • If applicable, search interior of bag and/or pockets for small white tag with production information and include a picture of that.
Thank you and be safe!

Each individual PLANT has their own individual creed and serial number stamps. The only thing that 2 bags of the same style MIGHT have in common is the same creed WORDING identifying the materials used in the bags, IF they were made in the same plant, month and year, and even then there can be small differences that we've verified and collected photos of over the years. Without actually having an extensive library of photos saved and indexed by year, plant and month including the occasional production and stamping mistakes it's impossible for anyone without that kind of resource or without the photographic memory of a JEOPARDY! champion to authenticate Coach bags accurately. We don't recommend that sellers and collectors try to do it on their own. Many if not most paid authentication services don't have the resources or the knowledge to do it either.

Information about creeds, serial numbers and other details often used in authenticating can be found in the Salearea Guides, the link is Pinned in the "STICKY THREADS" section at the top of almost every page in this thread.

Thank you, Hyacinth  for your detailed explanation. Even with my minimal knowledge on vintage coach bags, I would never attempt to do what authenticators like you and your team of experts do.

So if we haven't said it enough, thank you again for all that you do for the tPF community! :flowers:

Hi! I was checking out these bags and was wondering if they are authentic. A couple have certificates of authentication but I'm not sure if those fully count if the images on the sheet of paper (what I assume was provided to the authentication website) did not include the creed/serial number.

Goodwill (various locations) appear to use Entrupy and another company whose "COAs" are shown in the 4 listings you've asked about. (Note that the company whose certificates are shown in the above goodwill listings doesn't allow TPF to show their name. It comes up as ****************** so I cannot and didn't name them.)

Both companies have made errors and both companies have "authenticated" bags without adequate pictures.

#1 and #4 above are authentic.

#2 and #3 cannot be and shouldn't have been "authenticated" because there aren't the necessary pictures that prove authenticity.

A company that will evaluate bags and issue COAs loses credibility when they don't request and DEMAND appropriate pictures or when they do get "appropriate" pictures and obvious fakes are deemed authentic.

Thanks so much for clarifying, I’ve been wary of relying too heavily on those certificates and didn’t know if that was necessarily founded in anything, so this response helps a lot!

I was also able to find this link for the second listing (I scanned the QR code on the authentication paper) and one of the pictures did end up having the creed and serial number (the starred out portion is the company name spelled out completely) https://*****************.com/verify?order=1717095522072x940963068446321100IMG_3103.jpeg

All are fine.

The first link doesn't work correctly. Here's the listing:

Just an FYI, they post the CoA with the Qcode on it which usually has a full picture of the creed. #2 and #3 do have creed pictures. No idea if real or not and I am on my desktop otherwise I would post them for you.

That said, I have seen the CoAs on GW marked authentic and the bags were not authentic in any way. Like very obviously, made in Korea level of obvious, fake bags. So don't rely on those, especially if the bag is spendy. They will not refund you if they have a CoA but the bag is fake. I've taken a few risks on like $20 bags but if it's $200, check here and risk someone else seeing your bag.
