FOR ITEMS LISTED ONLINE:
Item: Vintage red ergo mini bag

Listing number: There is not a listing number on Poshmark.

Seller and site where listed: Poshmark

Link: https://posh.mk/3jMsSMZg7Db

Comments: I have this bag posted in my own Poshmark closet. I did a lot of research and I thought it was legit as the N at the start of the serial number indicates it's sold at Nordstrom exclusively is what I read. But someone purchased it and then they asked me to cancel because they said based on the serial number it wasn't the legitimate bag and I just want to find out either way. Purchased it at Goodwill of course. Thank you in advance for any help.

Sorry it's fake.

You have several misunderstandings.

On an authentic item, the letter at the beginning of the serial number is a month code from when the item was made. Generally, N is invalid as a month code although there have been cases of authentic bags (from a certain country) having a legitimate mistake.

As for bags made for Nordstrom, it's a hypothesis I've come to after finding bags (usually more recent styles) that have an "N" at the end of the serial number (after the style number) and based on where I saw those bags. Those I've seen were more likely made for discounters (in this case, if Nordstrom then made for the Rack stores).

Note that "J" would never be a valid year code.

Just because a serial number indicates the style similar to what it is supposed to look doesn't mean that the bag is authentic. Such is the case with this one.

Could you please advise if this purchase from a thrift store is authentic and if so name and when sold if possible. Measures approx: 3.75" x 3" x 1.5" Thanks

It's very hard to authenticate those, because there really aren't many details that help with authentication. However, I'm concerned about the turnlock and the poor quality of the work on the seams.

More opinions are welcome.

Hi. No. No Coach markings anywhere. I am leaning towards it's a copy as well, not that I know anything LOL. Just trying to educate myself via your expertise. The brass turnbuckle (not sure rt term) workmanship just looks too crude to be a Coach. Thanks for giving it the once over.
You're welcome. It's not the correct shape, it's the wrong kind of turnlock, the chain links are the wrong size, etc.

Is it marked Coach anywhere? I don't believe it was made by Coach.

The stitching isn't neat and straight, the links are the wrong shape and the ring holding the keyring isn't correct.

Even though we're sure it's not Coach, I'd like to see the back of the female side of the turnlock.

Oh Dear I guess All this Gender Neutral stuff has gotten to me
Thanks for the visual BB I can use all the help I can get.
Seriously Thanks Everyone!
The picture I attached is what the hardware should look like.
Keep in mind though that hardware, in and of itself isn't necessarily indicative of the item being fake or generic since hardware can be replaced.

But in this case, your item isn't Coach at all. It's not fake since it's not marked as "Coach" and thus, not pretending to be Coach.

Thank You all for your time and tips Just one more question. Has Coach ever used that type of turnlock?

Yes, the do use the type as shown on your coin/key case on various bags and accessories. I'm not sure whether Coach has used the flat plate on the specific style as your item is based. Those I've had have had the type I showed in post 85,043. Maybe @whateve and @Hyacinth know whether they've also used the flat ones on your type of item.

I was just trying to determine if it was an indicator of something to avoid when trying to judge authenticity in the future. Guess not that easy, best to consult with Purse Forum when in doubt. Thanks Again.
