Hi you all! I sold this on poshmark and like 2 weeks later the buyer messaged me ballistic and threatning because she thinks the bag is fakes I send her links to read and she won’t read them. I tried to explain that authentic Coach bags have a white tag in the pocket but she is refusing to believe me. I’m hoping one of you professional authenticators can put her mind at ease (and mine too because she’s being very harrasive!) thanks so much!

I posted my THOROUGHLY researched and regularly updated "Salearea Coach Guides" at Ebay back around 2012 and posted them here at tPF in 2018.

The white tag serial number change that Coach put into effect between 2014 and 2017 is mentioned in several places including one of the very first paragraphs in the updated 2018 version posted here. From the FACTS AND MYTHS section:

"I'll borrow and tweak what Daria48 posted (with her permission) about Coach's most recent blunders regarding creeds and serial numbers:

"Coach has made several major, and in my opinion very foolish changes in the last few years. In Summer 2014 they STOPPED STAMPING THE SERIAL NUMBERS THAT INCLUDED THE PRODUCTION CODES AND STYLE NUMBERS ONTO THE BOTTOM OF THE CREED PATCH. Not only does this make it harder for buyers to find the style number and name of their bag, but it also makes it much harder to spot and identify fakes.

The stamped numbers have been replaced with two TINY white (recently other colors too) fabric tags hidden deep inside the bags, usually along a side or bottom seam and sometimes sewn near the bottom seam of the inside pockets. One shows the country of manufacture, and the other has 2 lines of factory production codes including Coach's style number. Photos of these tags are critical to identify and hopefully authenticate newer bags made after mid-2014.

VERY bad move, Coach.

Then in early 2016 they started including a cheap paper card in purses that they're calling a "Certificate of Authenticity". We've said it many times - there is no such thing. NO PIECE OF PAPER CAN EVER PROVE A COACH IS GENUINE. Any counterfeiter can copy and reproduce a piece of paper! And even if the cards were ID-chipped like some highline makers do with tags inside their luxury bags (Coach doesn't do that), once that card would be taken out of the bag, the "proof" is gone. The ONLY thing that can ever prove or at least strongly indicate a Coach, or any other product, is genuine is if all the details are exactly correct and identical to the genuine version of the same style made in the same plant, month and year. Don't EVER depend on a piece of paper!

Another VERY bad and irresponsible move on Coach's part.

To confuse things even more, Coach once again started stamping the serial numbers on the inside creed patch starting some time in 2017. Unfortunately they also continued to use some completely made-up "serial numbers" showing an invalid style number AND with invalid month and plant codes and NO year code in the serial prefix. Have these authenticated here at tPF or the Ebay Fashion forum."

If your buyer is honest and has half a brain and an ounce of common sense she'll read the Guides, ALL SIX OF THEM. If she refuses then I'm going to assume that she's trying to cheat you and advise you to act accordingly. Anyone buying designer brands on the secondary market should either do some serious research or stick to buying brand-new from the manufacturers' own brick-and-mortar stores.

Please wait for any other advice and authentications that other members and authenticators might give.

First of all - thank you!!! This is amazing post. I am going to message the buyer and see if she is more receptive. I had gotten a COA from Authentic Detective and she told me she doesn’t want to read any of my “bs” nor does she want a certificate. ‍♀️ she says she’s is going to sue me (from across the country over a $150 bag) and if not, going to come “get me”. Really unstable person. With your permission I’d love to send poshmark support a copy of this info. I feel they will be a lot more receptive. Although the sale was completed and my funds released, they been known to refund buyers and it goes in my record that I sold a “fake.” It’s just an upsetting procedure. Thanks again!!!!

If she is saying that, she doesn't understand how PM works. Why isn't she just opening a return request and letting PM handle it?

Can the buyer open a return request on PM when 2 weeks have passed?

Hi! I've had this bag for a few years now, found at a yard sale. Haven't been able to identify it thus far - would love to know more about it!
Thanks in advance.
