I recently purchased a 1st Gen Mineral Rogue from an online auction. I have 2 other Rogue's. Both are 2nd gen, I believe. I've been comparing the 1st Gen to the others and the main thing I've noticed is that the leather doesn't feel quite as thick, but I don't know if that could be a due to color variation. My other 2 are Oxblood and Chalk, rather than Mineral. I also noticed the edging on this bag feels like the other 2, but I've seen a youtube video saying the edging on the 1st Gen is much stiffer, almost like there is a wire in it. This bag edging does not feel so stiff it's almost like a wire is inside. It feels very similar to the other 2. Absolutely everything else seems to check out, even when looking with a magnifying glass. Correct stamping on all the brass hardware as far as I can tell, and when compared to the others I have. There is a Made in Vietnam tag on the inside and a white No. L1580 38124 tag inside the zipper pocket. Either this is a deep fake or it's a true 1st Gen, but I don't know what would distinguish it as authentic. My reason for doubt is that the bag looks almost unused, but one side is so slouchy it does not stay upright on it's own, which I would not expect from a virtually unused bag, but perhaps it was stored incorrectly for years. Any photos needed to help determine it's authenticity, I'll be happy to take, but I'm guessing it will come down to details only an expert would recognize because the easy-to-spot signs of a fake aren't there. Anyone know enough about the 1st Gen Rogue in Mineral to tell me what photos you might need to help determine?
If this purse is not authentic, I will return it. https://shopgoodwill.com/item/175964899CoachRogueWhiteTag.jpg

Sorry for sort of reposting about the 1st Gen Rogue, but I'm figuring out how to post in this forum. I did contact the Goodwill store that sold me the bag with my concerns about it's authenticity. They are asking for information to support my concerns since they rely on the authentication service for the accuracy of their listings. I'm hoping someone with far more knowledge of this bag can tell me if the tag and listing photos look authentic, or if any additional information or photos are needed to help determine. I didn't have doubts about the other 2 rogues I purchased, and I bought them used too, so it's not because I bought secondhand. It's the things that are the same for the other two I have, but different for this bag. Wish I had another 1st Gen to compare to so I'd be more certain one way or the other, but I don't.

Please post a picture of that white tag. (That company shouldn't have authenticated it without that picture!)

In this case, your bag looks fine, but it's also a good example of why one should question all listings, even those that come with COAs.

A company authenticating Coach loses credibility if they judge an item based on pictures that aren't adequate to verify authenticity. And so many times, various companies have issued "certificates of authenticity" in cases where the pictures do NOT prove authenticity.

And with Goodwill (especially?), they put too much blind trust into the (so far) 2 companies they use for authentications and it appears that Goodwill doesn't notify those companies when errors have been made. And the lack of notification makes Goodwill look bad and can also hurt those companies who aren't made aware of the need to tweak their skills and knowledge.

JMHO.

I did respond with my opinion of the bag's authenticity however I want to comment further on the reply you received from Goodwill claiming that they "rely on the authentication service for the accuracy of their listings."

I commend Goodwill for their attempts to stay honest however from what I've seen of their responses to buyers who've received fakes, it doesn't appear that they notify Entrupy or AF of errors. (Additionally, I've seen COAs from both companies that would never have been issued - even if the bags were authentic - because the pictures submitted aren't adequate for authentication!)

Both companies that they use for their "authentications" have erred multiple times and sadly, the record for Entrupy, which uses AI (artificial intelligence) is dreadful. My guess is that Entrupy is wrong close to 50% of the time, at least with Coach. The other company has a better record but still errs and many listings have inadequate clear and definitive pictures.

Yet Goodwill continues to use the companies, seemingly assuming that the buyers and potential buyers who notify them are wrong.

Please feel free to let Goodwill know that if their integrity is important to them and if they want buyers to be reassured that COAs are accurate, they need to make corrections so their "experts" can fix the mistakes. You're welcome to forward this post to Goodwill and also advise them to search the forum for other errors on their COAs.

There's nothing I'd like more than to trust that a COA is accurate. Some companies are better than others and some companies use 2nd and 3rd opinions from different experts to confirm and/or correct errors.

I had a personal experience. I found (what I thought was) a gorgeous Prada bag. The construction and details were meticulous. After posting on ebay to verify whether it was worth getting a professional opinion and COA, I submitted about 2 dozen pictures to a company that has multiple brand experts. They use humans to authenticate, each with his/her specialty in specific brands.

I was shocked when the finding was that it was fake and requested that it be looked at again.

After a second (different) Prada expert confirmed it was fake, I returned the item to my place of purchase.

Item: Coach classic key fob
Listing number: 7210
Seller and site where listed alliehal on Poshmark
Link: https://posh.mk/4Ybj6szGZCb
Comments: please authenticate this key fob when you get a chance. I haven’t noticed the “made in Italy” on other fobs like this one.

I'm catching up so I don't know if this request was answered. I apologize if I'm repeating someone else's verification.

The teardrop keychain is fine although it's always a good idea to verify because it's a style that has been faked, some of which have been pretty close.

I'd like to make a quick point. I've received COAs from goodwill online, and one or two of the photos on the cert did not appear in the goodwill listing. They were additional photos. I think that the authentication services might (in some cases) receive more images for their evaluations than are shared with us, the buyers.

That may very well be the case. However listings should include pictures that allow outside websites to verify authenticity also. With so many fakes in the wild, it's a smart consumer who gets a second opinion and when we can't see pictures that are necessary for us to make accurate evaluations, it's not a good thing.

Another thing that should be noted is that many people don't trust QR codes so I don't want to have to click and go to another website to get access to pictures that I need to see.

I don't know how many images ShopGoodwill allows in their listings but Ebay allows sellers to upload up to 24 images to a listing for free! Don't they understand that the more they show, the less likely buyers are to claim that they didn't know what to expect? Plus, it's less of a PITA for the seller because they don't get additional requests asking to see creeds, white tags, corners, lining, hardware, etc. Show it in the listing and it's there for the buyers to see.

Additionally, some buyers won't ask sellers for additional pictures if they aren't shown in the listings. They will just move on to the next seller who does show them what they need to see.
