Sorry but it's fake.

ETA: Here's a genuine comp that was made in Feb. 1997, a month after your bag claims to have been made. Compare the serial number fonts on both:

Thank you BeenBurned, I was afraid of that. I have a couple creed photos in my file from bags I’ve owned and they were also 1997 D factory stamps and they didn’t match either… but I was hoping maybe someone knew they changed the stamp after January or something. Oh well, every day is a school day.

Hi☺️ I was wondering if you can take a look at this bag. Purchased from a private seller. It looks and feels great, but never seen a serial number looking like this
Thank you.

Cream color?

Genuine, it looks like a Basic Bag, style 9455 and probably made in or around 1988. The 8-number serial number is a known and confirmed plant mistake from that time period when the dash between the 2 halves of the number was replaced by a number for some reason, maybe a flaw in the stamping mechanism but that's just a guess.

The color was probably Bone

Hi all! I found this vintage Coach (hopefully) bag at a small hospital thrift store last week. I was hoping you could tell me whether it’s authentic or not, since I’m not familiar with made in nyc bags. Also, if it is real, would it be the saddlery or another style? It’s approximately 9” high x 10” wide, but it was difficult to measure properly since it’s so bent out of shape. Thanks for your time!

It's authentic. I don't know the style number.
