Thank you and be safe!

Thanks! My thoughts too. And I wasn't sure on the style name, hence the (?). A quick search I could either find it called trail or flap bag.
There is a style #9955 that is called a trail bag. Style #9965 is called a Legacy small flap. Many years ago somebody mixed up the two numbers when listing their bag on ebay. Ever since then the mistake has been propagated by other sellers.

Good morning!
I have a question about G plant bags. I passed on a bag yesterday at an estate sale because I had concerns about the year of manufacture and plant code. I was unable to get pics--crowded place!

The serial number was D9G-9060. I have had in my mind that the G plant code stopped appearing after 1997. The bag was so beautiful, soft, and well made! Any expertise on the G code would be much-appreciated! Thanks in advance!

The most recent year I have images for is 1998 for a known genuine item. All my 1999 G plant images show fakes and I have several 2000 fake G plant examples. I have one picture in my records of a "questionable" 2000 G plant. (In that case, "questionable" was the word used by another authenticator. My opinion is that the bag was fake.)

Without a picture(s) of the bag you saw, it's impossible to positively authenticate it but I'm betting it wasn't genuine. (Just curious. What was the style of bag?)

ETA: FWIW, here's an example of a listing of a fake with D9G as the prefix:

And Poshmark seller therunningveg:

It was a slim duffle (9060). Size (even length of strap), shape, interior seemed consistent with authentic. I just called the seller and bag is still there. I'm taking a chance--in the interest of research--and picking up the bag at 50% off. I will send pics once I have it in hand. I figure the bag is beautiful, and I can "deface" and give it to my niece if fake. Thanks for your response, BeenBurned!

Of course it's your money so you can spend it as you wish, but unless 50% is so cheap that you can use the leather for something, I wouldn't spend money on a fake, but that's just me.

Since you're in contact with the seller, can you request that the seller send a picture of the creed? (The fake *9G and *0G creeds I've seen were on styles that "matched" the correct style number.)

I also revised my post above yours, adding a couple of listings of fakes with the invalid serial prefix.
