Thank you again @Hyacinth!

Now if only you could authenticate which color I want more…

Can't help you there, sorry!

But this is how I personally look at it - black Coach bags are the easiest color to find and two or three black bags of different sizes and uses (small and dressy, large and practical, and one that's fun and a bit bling-y) are really all I need. All my other Coaches are ACBB (any color but black). Maybe I'm thinking back to my child and teen years when my practical mom decided that she would only buy black purses for me because "black goes with everything", so other posters' mileage may differ.

Authentic "top of the compartment" bag ?

It's actually a "Legacy Top Of COUNTER Compartment Bag", believe it or not. :whut:

Just in case you think I've lost my marbles - from one of Coach's webpages:

Possibly under the influence of Angry Orchard Hard Cider, I speculated (with tongue firmly in cheek!) a few years back how Coach might have given it that name:

Earlier speculation included the possibility of either alcohol or controlled substances being involved in Coach's decision. :graucho:

It was NEVER called a Penny Pocket, just a Pocket Purse. The bag is genuine, from 1996, the "Penny" part is fiction. Note Coach's Fall 1997 catalog page:

...and from as far back as 1987:

The "Penny" part was mentioned years ago in connection with a completely unrelated vintage style by someone connected to Coach but we've never seen any actual PHYSICAL evidence (price tag, catalog page, advert, etc) of it ever officially being used. Unfortunately, as it often happens, a few sellers got the details scrambled and started using it for almost any small vintage turnlock style.

A WORD TO THE WISE:
Don't EVER assume that all sellers know the correct name, manufacture date or even decade, style number, style family, or design details of what they're selling! (This is even MORE important if and when they invoke the name of Bonnie Cashin).
