FAKE. Big problems with the serial number and the hardware.
Thanx . . . And bummer.

Just realized I didn’t post all the photos I had but I guess it’s a moot point. Sorry about that

If I may ask:
* Is the serial number ever valid?
* How can I learn more about the hardware issue? I’m assuming it’s the back of the turnlock female?

Thanx again! So helpful.

Sandy

The serial number is a valid format but the font used isn't. The problem with the hardware is the back of the turnlock. We never use that alone to determine a bag is fake because hardware can be replaced. It is illegal to sell fakes so I would try to return it.

Thank you, I was questioning the top handle, specifically. The strap on bag A is not authentic.
They were made at different factories, which could account for the differences. Even from the same factory there could be differences as they were handmade. There should always be some tapering on the top handle, which is true with both bags.

Did you get a price adjustment for the non-Coach strap?

We've talked about that same serial prefix before. It's NOT the number or even just the serial prefix that isn't valid. J6D- is found in many genuine coaches. The problem is that the FONT used in the serial number was NEVER used by the "D" plant, in 1996 or any other year.

There are almost four full pages of links to posts mentioning serial prefix J6D and many of them explain and a few even show comparison photos of both fake and genuine J6D- prefixes. Vintage Coach serial number fonts are usually unique to a specific plant and time period and a comprehensive photo library can show the differences. The 3 regular authenticators here all have very large and accurate photo libraries of both real and fake creeds and dozens of other details. Coach plant fonts are almost as dependable as authentication and identification tools as human fingerprints because almost every plant's serial number stamp was different and even unique

Here's one from just a few months ago:

As for the turnlock, use the forum's Search feature and search for "Coach indented turnlock". There are 3 pages of links.
