Normally it would just be a chance of 2 identical Metroploitan Briefs made in the same plant, month and year which would mean they had the same serial number

HOWEVER, close examination tells me the creed photos are BOTH from the same bag, not just it's bag twin. There are 2 tiny whitish spots under the number, one is right under the lower left leg of the "N" in "No" and the other is under the "C" a bit farther down. They're from the same bag but apparently from 2 different IDs, VINTAGE NOOK and CARL'SVINTAGE

Unless you contact the sellers and ask them why another seller seems to be listing the same briefcase I wouldn't bid on either one, you won't have any idea what you're getting. It wouldn't be the first time a seller had substituted photos of a clean and undamaged bag for one in poorer condition. Neither listing can be authenticated in this situation. Even if the sellers made a legitimate mistake, it's a very poor decision selling twins of the same bag by 2 different sellers or one seller using 2 names without taking extra care to find some way of telling one from the other. There are also a few other distinctive markings that tell me it's the same bag. If I can see it, the seller(s) should have been able to see it too. I'm not getting a good vibe from that seller or sellers. And I can't find any personal details like exact locations that tell me if it's 2 different sellers or one seller using 2 names.

Did you already buy the bag? I can't see anything telling me that one of the sellers sold the item to the other one, both SEEM to be active listings but my browser doesn't handle Mercari listings well. Both sellers are listed as shipping from Florida, but both have slightly different selling and shipping prices. I'd suggest that you keep looking and avoid BOTH of them.

Welcome to the forum! It's an authentic basic bag made in the late 70s or 80s. The number is unique to this bag so you won't find it in a search. Visit our vintage chat thread and our rehab club for more information about your bag and how to care for it.

Perfect! Thanks so much!!

An FYI for anyone interested, I had a high dollar, rare Vintage clock listed on Mercari and twice I found someone had stolen my pictures and descriptions and used them like they were going to sell my exact clock. I’m wondering if the actual seller isn’t aware someone has posted the same item?

They're not from the same group of photos that would have been taken at the same time, since the backgrounds are different. So it doesn't SEEM to be a simple matter of picture theft. It's just not clear if one of the listed sellers sold it to the other one, there's no information that's visible to me that shows any information. Maybe someone with a Mercari account has access to more specific details. But if one bought it from the other, there should be SOMETHING in the original seller's listing indicating that the item's been sold.

ETA - "Vintage Nook" seems to have has some kind of recent transaction but there aren't any real details.

Maybe someone familiar with Mercari listings can find more information.

@Yaamcakes -- Remember to include the seller ID in each request.

Bag 1 seller is Vintage Nook
Bag 2 seller is carlsvintage

Both sellers are located in Florida and in further digging, I've concluded that they're one and the same or working together.

From Vintage Nook: https://www.mercari.com/us/item/m94910463370/
From Carlsvintage: https://www.mercari.com/us/item/m63253846752/

From Vintage Nook: https://www.mercari.com/us/item/m21439656653/
From Carlsvintage: https://www.mercari.com/us/item/m15746388904/

What I can't understand is why he/she/they would run multiple listings for the same items and take separate sets of pictures!

Thanks, BeenBurned, two sellers working together or one seller using 2 IDs to list the same item doesn't make much sense to me either. Not exactly the best way to engender trust between seller(s) and potential buyers. Apparently they thought no one would notice. But why do it in the first place?

It is a puzzlement. :confused1:
