Hi again. I thought I had read the early '80s info on various sites but probably misinterpreted this misleading snippet from this site when I googled. It reads

"1980

Coach bags like this were made in their factory in New York City up until around 1980, when they expanded their factories to elsewhere in the U.S.Oct 19, 2019
Collectors Guide to Vintage Coach Bags - Yourgreatfinds"

the actual info on that site, however, is talking about one particular style of bag, not the bags in general, so isn't inaccurate as far as I can tell. So I misunderstood. I can't tell you how grateful I am to all of you authenticators and this forum. Especially because in general, I'm finding googling ANYTHING to be less and less helpful because it's entirely geared to sell products now more than provide information. thank you so much!! I bought the little navy bag, coudn't resist!

The date information you found is still wrong, it doesn't matter what bag they're talking about. Coach didn't expand their factories past the original one in New York City to other locations in the US or its territories until 1988. That date is historically solid. Expansion elsewhere in the US began in 1988 which is WHY they changed their "Made In... " line from '...New York City" to "Made in the United States" OR "Made In U.S.A." beginning in 1988. Their rundown of years when the serial number formats changed is simply wrong, like this:
" From around 1980-1994, the serial number still consisted entirely of numbers, but was now in the format XXXX-XXX. It is more difficult to pinpoint the exact date of bags with this kind of serial number since it spans a wider time period." WRONG !!!

That webpage writer is probably using a very old and VERY inaccurate "guide" with a series of dates based on serial numbers that were as much as 10 years off when the "guide" was posted in the mid 2000 decade. Please DON'T depend on it. That guide was recopied and reposted by various authors under names like "eBelle" and and is just as wrong today as it was 15 years ago. It has even been posted or quoted on dozens of sites like "vintagecoachbags DOT com", TheBagForum and in a number of Facebook Groups by various posters who claim to be experts but who never took the time to actually check the date information, even the ones who claim to have sold or refurbished hundreds if not thousands of Coach bags. At least one of them was STILL using that outdated and error-filled "guide" just within the last 2 years.

I didn't read the rest of that Collector's Guide you linked to so I won't comment on anything but the dates. Their suggestions on spotting fakes is also flawed, like " A good starting place if you are unsure of authenticity is to Google search the last 4 numbers in the serial number (if the bag was made after 1994) to see if the serial number is valid." A "valid" serial number does NOT prove that a bag is genuine! That's really BAD information and has probably led to a lot of buyers throwing good money away on fakes.

Hello, authenticators! Thoughts on this bag? I purchased it on impulse at the last second of the eBay auction, I won’t be doing that anymore , and I just received it. I can’t seem to find it in the catalog and found one that was authenticated here, but not sure if this one is legit or what the style name is.

It measures about 8 inches high by 8.5 across the base and 2.5 deep.

item: coach purse

Good evening dear authenticators! A request to authenticate please. Thank you!!!

Item: Stewardess
Where purchased or how obtained: To be honest, I do not remember (probably the thrifts!) since I have had this bag in my possession way before I knew about the purse forum and vintage fake Coach bags! I do not think I had it authenticated here, I looked, pardon if this is indeed a duplicate request.
Comments: Height is 9", width is 11" and depth (measured from middle) is about 4 1/2".

Hello Authenticators! I hope you can help me with this one, as I have a bad feeling that I got snookered. This was a purchase a recently made on Ebay and i will post the link with hopes that you can still see the listing, additionally I have take photos of my own to show the areas that have given me pause.

Item: Refinished Coach70's Vintage Penny Pocket Flap Tan Leather Crossbody Bag purse (Also, I realize now that the purse is really a Convertible Clutch)
Listing number: 125257565706
Seller and site where listed: mamazack, Ebay
Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1252575657...=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

These are the items that give me pause because I have never seen them on authentic Coach bags before:
1) Notice in the listing that the on the 4th pic, the zipper pull is concealed, I did not notice it when I saw the listing I was focused on the writing and what process I could use to remove it. See my pic attached.

2) on the Creed, the last word is LEATHERS, versus LEATHER.

3) Lobster claws has an anchor engraved on them.
4) the D rings on the side of bag

Please help, I've been "vexed" ever since I opened the package yesterday.
Thank you in advance!

Good afternoon, I found a bag yesterday shopping at a flea market. It seems authentic to me but I've been wrong before. If anyone has a minute could you tell me what you think of this handbag. I would love to know the name too. The strap drop is about 18.5 inches on the shortest buckle at the middle of the bag. Thank you very much.
