Hello Authenticators,
Can you help me with bag? Thank you
Item 1: Coach Compartment Bag #9850
Where purchased or how obtained : Local Thrift Store
Comments: My bag measures 8x5x2 inches. There are no metal rings to join the strap to the body of the bag. I googled this bag and found a picture of an old coach brochure. The picture shows 2 bags. #9850 and 9845. Though my bag is #9850 but the size is that of a #9845.
Also the hangtag has an unfinished leather ( suede) side. Is this authentic?
Creed is 256-4953. Made in New York City, USA. I guess this is the pre-creed era.

Opps, I think I made a mistake. I dont know why I think my bag is 9850. It's not even stamped on the bag. I must have got it mixed up. So sorry  Tried to edit my post but unable to.

It's actually a style 9845 Compartment Bag Small, and BTW, it's NOT "pre-creed". The creed is the stamp inside that begins "This is a Coach bag" so if it has a creed it's not pre-creed.

What is strange is that it has one of the old "made in NYC" creeds, and this style was introduced in 1989 in the Spring Preview catalog (although early versions of both sizes may have been made in late 1988). Almost all the NYC creed stamps were discontinued at the end of 1987 or very early 1988, so this is an oddball. But it's definitely genuine.

BTW, some of the early leather hangtags were made of 2 tags glued together and the 2 halves would often separate. HOWEVER, many fakes makers copied that flaw and for that and several other reasons, the hangtags should NEVER be used for authentication.

Thank you so much Hyacinth. I guess I wanted to say the serial number was before they introduced the style number but it came out the other way. haha. I always have to think before I write as my English is not so good. I like that it is strange, so my bag is unique! The leather is really thick and supple. My daughter already made a claim to it. haha. I'm glad I went to the movie the other day and this little shop just couldnt wait to attract my attention. Here we call thrift shop "Bundle shop". I dont know how the term came about but they are springing like mushroom after the rain!

Resale and Vintage clothing shops here in the US are doing very good business. I've never heard the term "Bundle shop" before, maybe because most people bring items to them to sell or donate in bundles, carried in everything from sheets and pillow cases to garbage bags, all "bundled" together. Millions of people stuck at home during the Covid lockdowns must have decided that it was a good time to clean out their closets.

And your English is excellent. Where do you live, if you don't mind me asking?

I think you are right Hyacinth. The bundle shops here sell everything in one shop from clothes, bedsheets, plates, laces to bags and shoes. Most of us still stay at home most of the time so most the sellers ply their trade online which I think is a great idea of generating income.
I'm from Malaysia btw and it is already 1.30am here. Obviously I'm a night owl!

Good morning Experts

Could you please have a look at this bag I just purchased on Etsy? Just wanted to make sure before seller ships. Thanks!

Genuine. It's one of the Madison Satchels from the late 1980s but i can't say which one.The Large version came with a detachable shoulder strap, so if it has d-rings on the sides for a strap, it's the Large.

Here's a 1989 catalog page showing both, click on the thumbnail to enlarge

Snow! How nice! Wish I could see and feel it too!
Thank you for the link. This is going to keep me awake!
I just scrolled through some of the pages and some of the finds are really beautiful not to mention the cheap price. I always think that Americans are so fortunate. You can get vintage bags for as low as USD2!
