Dear authenticators-
I was just gifted this bag from a friend and I don't understand how to read the creeds from China.
Question the first: would you happen to know of a good source of info so I could educate myself further on how to read them?

Question the second: would you be able to tell me more about this bag? (and also the burning question - is it real or not?)

I also acquired a backpack that I will post separately, also from China.

Thank you so much.

There is a Pinned thread at the top of every page in this Authenticate section called "Salearea Guides" that gives a ton of information on Coach history and stamping details, including reading and dating creeds and serial numbers. It's geared mostly for vintage bags but the general details stay the same up until about 2012-2014 when Coach started messing around with serial numbers. The first 13 posts are mostly background and some of the links don't work but the rest is solid information about Coach details. The Daria48 Fake Numbers Guide that follows it also has a lot of good information including some, NOT all, of the most common fake serial numbers.

Yours is a genuine but NOT "vintage" Legacy Zip made in 2007, it's a remake of an older style from the late 1990s. Here's some 1997 catalog information on the original version, the China remakes never made it into the catalogs. You can also use the forum Search feature, look for "coach legacy zip 9966":

BTW, I strongly recommend reading the Salearea Guides more than once, every few weeks or every month, until the information starts to fall into place. There's a lot there to absorb. There's another Pinned thread right in the same group called "Answers to AUTHENTICITY Questions" which is a good place to ask for clarification on the details in the Salearea Guides.

I have a buyer claiming it’s fake because of YKK zipper nonsense. And she’s really making me pissy this week lol. She opened a case against me and I accepted the return. She is going off about the zipper and YKK and will not listen to anything I say. I tried explaining the salearea guides and the YKK myth but she blocked me.

Will Do and great suggestion. And thank you so so so much - I'm so grateful for all of your help - especially, as you quote in the guides, the only thing consistent about coach is its inconsistency! Makes for sporty collecting, for sure.

I suggest that you post her buying ID here. Other sellers need to avoid know-it-alls like that. You know the old saying about never try to teach a pig to sing?

I think there used to be a Blocked Bidder List somewhere in these forums but can't find it ATM.

  • FOR ITEMS NOT LISTED ONLINE:
Item: Coach Backpack (not sure what correct style this would be)
Where purchased or how obtained: Years ago at a thrift store named Out Of The Closet
Comments: I bought this years ago and Never thought to get it authenticated. It also got accidentally burned by sitting too close to a lamp for an extensive amount of time. The bottom it feels as though was supported by a thin base it has become loose and now the bottom is not as sturdy. I would like to know if I’ve been rocking the real thing this whole time. Thank you!

It's a genuine Sonoma Small Backpack, Natural Grain made in 1996.

I don't know if there's any fix for the heat damage but you could always ask at the Rehab And Rescue thread in the Coach Clubhouse at the main Coach forum.

I will do a search for it! Thank you.
