Good evening. I am requesting a authentication. I purchased this bag from a neighbor today. She told me she bought it from the Coach store in the Hamptons when she was 15 or 16 with her own money. She is now 64, so she said sometime mid 70's.
item: Vintage Coach bag, Courier Pouch?
the serial number did not photograph well, it is No. 450-5446 I had laid the bag out on the counter before dunking. Sorry about the photo quality. Thanks for your assistance.

Love love those Couriers! I have two - a small and large. The large is in my profile pic. I love these bags!

Congrats on such a find.. She just needs a little love.

Hi authenticators,

Could I get your professional opinion(s) on this one?

Item: Coach shoulder bag (??? model name)
Listing number: N/A
Seller / site where listed: kramers_korner / poshmark
Link: https://poshmark.com/listing/Coach-New-York-City-Bag-The-Fairfield-Sto-61bfa00a3bad6d7d1b0d61fd

Seller mentions that it was manufactured specifically for Coach’s Fairfield, CT store. Was that a thing back in those days?

Thanks as always!

I've heard of Coach making color combinations exclusively for major retailers like Macy's, but never anything about doing special bags for smaller local stores, if that's what the seller is implying. Local retailers would often sew, or maybe have Coach sew, their own store LABELS into bags destined for their inventory, but having a local store's label doesn't mean that that style was made specially for one retailer. I think someone is reading more into that store's label than they should.

Also the bag is NOT from the early or mid-1970s, that's too early for a bag with a serial number. At the earliest I would guess around maybe very late 1970s thru 1983, but again, that's just a guess. I've seen a Flight Bag with long double handles like that one mentioned here before but don't have or remember any details.

SacsMagnifiques aka Tetondeb aka DebiTheRestorer had an almost identical style on one of her websites as a Throwback Thursday entry from at least 7 years ago, but I don't have any other details and don't even know if the page exists any more since my old OS isn't compatible with her current website - click on the thumbnail:

I agree with Hyacinth that it was common back in the 70s and 80s for retailers to put their own labels into Coach bags. It doesn't mean the bag was exclusive to that store.

I've seen several skinny flight bags with the longer handles but it is pretty rare. I've never found a style number for it. Personally, I prefer this to the one with the separate long strap. I suspect one of my first Coach bags was this style, purchased around 1978-1981.

Thanks, Hyacinth and whateve! Would never have guessed that whole backstory.

So — is the consensus that this is the real deal, then, just not necessarily a “Fairfield Store” exclusive? (I *think* that’s what you were both implying, but I just want to make sure.)

Thanks again!

Good morning Authenticators. I had two listings removed from eBay. May I please have authentications and some help? I'll post one at a time to lessen confusion. These are from my collection.

First item: Kimball Zip
The hangtag is not original and I stated such in the listing.

Next item that was removed was my #9994 backpack with the recreated cinch, which I stated in the listing - "cinch is not authentic and was recreated due to being lost.."

Again, this is from my collection.

Thank you very much for the authentification and the wishes of luck. This is about the worst bag I've ever purchased but I had a feeling it was something special. I'll post the after photos to Coach Rescue and Rehab when I finish.

Both bags are genuine.

Just curious - are you a member of any private Facebook Groups focused on Coach? And if you are, is your username on those sites similar to your ID here at tPF? You don't have to answer but if you are, it might help explain things. Or is your Ebay ID similar to your tPF ID?

Wait for advice on how to handle this from @BeenBurned.

If I thought the bag was fake I wouldn't have wasted time on such a long-winded dissertation. I would have just said "Fake".

It's genuine. It's the seller's information that's shaky.

My eBay username is the same as here, both accounts (eBay and TPF) were set up over ten years ago. When I started selling on eBay, I thought keeping the transparency was a good thing. I’ve thought about creating a new ID here but, why do I have to hide or change? I’m not doing anything wrong. If someone buys from me and does a search for me here, I want the buyer to know that the bag they purchase was cared for and that authenticity is of the utmost of importance.

I am not a part of any Facebook groups focused on Coach. Dale did invite me but there’s no way in hell I want anything to do with him or his group(s).

Drama and handbags should never mix.
