Hi Authenticators!
Will you please take a look at this bag? I bought it at a consignment store. Thank you so much in advance for your time.

Item: Crosby bag
Where purchased or how obtained: consignment
Comments: size 13" x 9" x 4.5"
It’s fine.
Thank you so much, @BeenBurned !
I sold this item about a week ago and I was notified that the buyer is returning this item because she/he thought this was fake and the platform 'reviewed document from the buyer for proof' and they ruled this bag a fake! I'm so furious. I'm so hurt.
What do you means by "the platform reviewed document from the buyer for proof?"

If the buyer submitted an authentication deeming that bag as fake, the company who did the authentication has no business doing that job!

I'd like to know who it was, I'd recommend referring the buyer here for reassurance and if the buyer doesn't want to learn, please either PM or post the buyer's ID so those who sell Coach can add the name to their BBL.

There's also a discussion at the Vintage thread:

I'm so sorry I'm using this space to update this matter but I thought it maybe helpful for others that also sell on Mercari to know that there seems to be no rights for the seller to claim their side of the story. They sent me this response after I asked about the basis of their decision (what made them think this bag was fake?). I'm now so discouraged to use their platform.

@BeenBurned , I actually wrote on another thread about this since I thought 'authentication' thread may not be proper. @Hyacinth , thank you for notifying that on my behalf.

No need to apologize. Sometimes posts take on a life of their own and often, with good reason.

Just discovered this one any idea of the year if authentic?

Seller Jpnau
I keep coming back to look at this listing.

Please wait for others but does anyone think it looks like a Frankenbag?

At first glance, I thought I was looking at a station bag but that inside pocket is way off! IMO (and I hope I'm wrong), it looks like the pocket was removed from a different bag and attached in this bag.

Also, the strap looks too short and the front leather closure tab is a different color from the bag.

OTHER OPINIONS ARE MORE THAN WELCOME!

The parts don't go together, that's the real problem. BeenBurned already mentioned the problems. The inside pocket almost looks like it came from a different bag, the color seems too dark, but maybe that's due to the lighting. The turnlock tab obviously isn't the one that came with the bag, the color is wrong and it doesn't look as if it was positioned correctly. If you're buying it to resell, that color difference would be a turn-off to many potential buyers. It may be genuine but it's not in Original condition.

It's actually appears to be a full-size briefcase, probably an early Metropolitan Brief style 5180 made in 1986 or 1987. It's definitely NOT a handbag or even a mini-brief, I can tell by the riveted top handle. Those were only used for some full-size business and travel bags. Describing the size as "Medium" isn't accurate, it's 16 inches long. From a 1987 catalog:

Just because you haven't seen it before doesn't mean much. Coach made more than a dozen briefcase styles just between 1985 and 2000.

You might want to look through the catalog scans posted in the reference thread in the main Coach forum.

"Frankenbag" - hahaha! Oh dear, that's a good one! I'm still smiling :)
