Cool history.

So what is the difference between the 4075 and the 4153 in the pictures they look the same with some very minor measurement changes.

I thought they changed the serial format from xxxx-xxx to xxx-xxxx in 1993? And what color would this be considered. They have it listed as brown but the only brown listed for either the 4075 or the 4153 is British Tan or Buttersotch (4075)?

When Coach changes a bag's measurements or construction details it almost always gets a new style number. And maybe sometimes they changed the numbers just because they felt like it.

If you go back and read the Salearea Guides on serial numbers:

from around 1980 up to the beginning of 1990 - 3+4, all numbers

from around 1990 up to the beginning of 1994 - 4+3, all numbers. BUT WITH SOME EXCEPTIONS SINCE THE OLD 3+4 FORMAT WAS SOMETIMES USED IN 1992-93.

STARTING IN 1994 AND EXTENDING INTO 1996, THE FORMAT WAS GRADUALLY CHANGED TO -
A SERIAL PREFIX OF 3 EITHER NUMBERS OR LETTERS + 4 NUMBERS EXCEPT FOR SOME ATLANTA OLYMPICS ITEMS THAT MAY HAVE HAD ONLY 3 NUMBERS IN THE SECOND HALF, AND SERIAL PREFIXES OFTEN WERE ACCIDENTALLY MIXED UP.

There are exceptions to almost every "rule", please refer to the Salearea Guides for more details. Coach changes the rules as they go. And there are no carved-in-stone dates for most of the changes.

Sorry, I don't get involved in figuring out colors.

We aren't really sure when they changed from 3 to 4 digits and each plant may have made the change at different times. All we know is it was after 1988. I originally thought the change occurred around 1992 until I found styles that were only made in 1990, for example, that had the 4 - 3 format.

The difference between 4153 and 4075 is the way the straps attach. Now that I look at the bag again, I see you are right, it is 4075, not 4153. Sorry for the mistake.

My apologies too, I should have looked at the strap more closely.

Genuine, but please remember to include the link to the listing and the seller's name or ID. Remember the fake Willis! Speaking of which, have you made any progress with that one?

Thank you so much for authenticating!!!

Regarding the seller and listing, I sent you a PM about that. Let me know your thoughts and if you’d still like the listing posted, I’ll do so right away.

Regarding the fake Willis, at the moment it’s currently boxed up tight so that it doesn’t emit its stench all over my house, and I am waiting patiently to escalate with eBay. I get to do that as of Friday morning so fingers crossed!
