Good evening !
Item: pre-creed coach courier bag
Site: thrift store
Measurements: 10"/10"/5"
Color: blue( appears dyed?)
Comments: Can you please authenticate this bag. Found it at the salvation army for $8.99. The metal coach tag is missing and it appears to be dyed blue. Leather is soft and brass is polished with no markings (solid brass). Could be authentic???!!!
More pics
All the construction details are correct but without the tag we can't say it was made by Coach. My pre-creed courier had a stamp rather than a metal tag (possibly having been made a few years later) and had solid brass stamped on the buckles.
Yes, that looks like where it would have been.
There was definitely a small metal plaque exactly the same shape and size as the Coach plaque at the top of that pocket once upon a time. Although it might not be accepted as absolute proof in a court of law, I'm 99.99 percent sure it was made by Coach.

For $8.99, I'd say you've got a keeper, even if you end up hanging onto it yourself instead of selling it. And you might want to be carrying that one the next time you play Bingo or buy lottery tickets, maybe there's still a bit of that luck tucked away in that bag.
Nice find! That's the type of item that keeps me from making too much noise when I see the $40 fakes at thrift stores and not ripping them new ones!

Don't you love it when they don't know what they have?!?

Hi!
Would you please authenticate a bag I bought off of eBay?

Comments: Attaching picture of the creed inside.
If you haven't paid, cancel! The bag is fake.

ETA: I just realized you won it several days ago. If you've received it, open a SNAD case for "not authentic" (or as ebay has it, "doesn't seem authentic.")

It's hard to tell if the serial number is J8H-9525 or J9H-9525, but either way, it's fake.

Serial # is J9H-9525.
OMG, this is my first fake Coach! It's amazing how well it is made.
Only question I had was the placement of the creed stamp, half way down at the back leather (instead of always stamped closed to the opening).

I already paid for the bag.. Can eBay accept returns if I argue it's fake? Never returned anything before.

Good morning! I guess... I'm hoping... that factories can sometimes stamp the wrong Numbers on bags...wishful thinking:hrmm: . Thank you for your efforts:smile:
Factories DO sometimes stamp the wrong numbers, but the chances of one stamping a handbag style number inside a briefcase are pretty slim (style 9944 belongs to a Taylor Zip handbag). The big problem is that the bag looks like a copy of the 5281 Field bag, but the front pockets aren't quite right especially at the bottom, and while this one has a date code for July 1994, the 5281 Field Bag wasn't even introduced until the Holiday 1995 catalog.

I THINK this is what it's trying to be, from the 1996 Preview catalog showing the new-for-1996 turnlock design:

I can't find any style available in 1994 that matches the bag in the listing. The only thing that's even close is a dowel version of the Field Bag.

More opinions are welcome

ETA -
we just authenticated a genuine 5281 Field Bag a few days ago, you can compare the differences in the front pockets. Even the front flap looks a bit longer on the suspected fake.

Here's the questionable bag from Posh:

If it wasn't for the date it might be tempting to just think it was a plant screw-up with the style number, but a year and a half is just too wide a gap.
I think a bigger and even more obvious problem is with the plant code on the creed of fefesfabfinds's bag (aside from the year and style number)!

ETA: fefesfabfinds also has this fake "Coach" wallet!

Understood! Whatvyoubpinted out looked a little wonky to my naive eyes as well. I just want a black field bag so bad, i want it to be a Plant screw up haha! Thank you again!

It's absolutely not a "mistake" (unless you count those made by the counterfeiters).

I found some pictures in my records of the identical incorrect serial number on a completely different style of bag. And that example points out one of the many problems with Entrupy and their "authentications." Adding a bit more info about the seller, tml4j.

She also has this lot listing with at least one fake. The cream color bag is fake.

Thanks for helping. This arrived and I LOVE it. Just making sure it's authentic.

Comments: The leather is so soft, not stiff like many of the vintage bags I've seen. It's got the "bullseye" on the creed.
It's fine, made in 2001.
